Evening all

So RWC 2011 is being held in NZ, last time it was here in 1987 the All Blacks took the cup (albeit South Africa weren't invited ). During that year global markets were also in turmoil. We're in a similar position now it seems - could the planets be aligning for this to be the year of the AB's again?
The Wallabies would like to think otherwise, they looked very dangerous in the 1st half last weekend and had a great deserved win in the Tri-Nations. That win has been good for the tournament overall, big jump in late bookings coming in from Australia which is just what the tournament needs.

Auckland is really starting to get a hum about it. Roll on Friday!

(But secretly holding a candle for the Wallabies... and hoping the Canucks aren't too severely humiliated : )

Wouldn't be too upset if the Lions won either... just keep those Frogs out of it.
 
looking forward to watching some games this afternoon. Argentina v England should be a bruiser. Scotland v Romania could be interesting (maybe) Im looking forward to seeing if the Japanese are getting any better, which hopefully they are considering there hosting a rugby world cup.

Thought the All Blacks were pretty poor last night. They'll need to step it up big time if there not going to choke out in the quarters.
 
ha ha it'll be interesting to see how many times the 'choke' tag comes out. All Blacks will be very hard at home tho
Wallabies must be favourites given the tri-nations. Although that illogical loss to Samoa says a lot - not a lot of depth. Will be interesting to see how they do today against Italy's forwards

England were pretty rusty yesterday, they should improve as the tournament goes through.

Went to the France-Japan game - 25-21 with 13mins to go, real shame France got away at the end, it wasn't a reflection of the game, but better skills & fitness hard for the minor teams to keep up

Was a good game to watch, Japan had a shocking first 10min, were all over the place, after the first 10 I thought France were going to rack up a cricket score. Some great rugby yesterday, all the games were pretty decent. Romania, Namibia and Japan all gave the stronger country's a good go. Actually quite difficult to pick the best game of yesterday.
 
great game from Ireland last night, played to the conditions very well. Aus didn't have an answer - Ioane and Pocock appeared to be sadly missed they just couldn't get on the front foot. Could've been a lot worse, Ireland unlucky not score a try towards the end

Wallabies v Springbocks in QFs?
 
Australia played shocking last night against Ireland. I now have doubts about the Wallabies winning.
All Blacks looking very good at the moment.
 
still early days tho Danny, everyone can allow a slip-up in the pools, Wallabies will be keen to make amends now and could make them more dangerous.

NZ-France this coming weekend will be a beauty. A loss for either side potentially gives the 'easier' run through the knock-out stages. Wouldn't be surprised if France let this one go with a view to the finals

Thierry Dusautoir will lead an under-strength French team against Richie McCaw's All Blacks at Eden Park




The French rugby team have been accused of making a farce of their Rugby World Cup clash with the All Blacks on Saturday night by naming a side without many of their stars.
The Eden Park match - considered by many as the best of the pool play - was the first pool game to sell out, with 60,000 fans paying up to $460 for a ticket.
The fact that France has been responsible for the All Blacks' early exit from two previous World Cups has fuelled interest in the match.
But French coach Marc Lievremont's naming of a drastically altered side - including halfback Morgan Parra making his first start as an international first-five - has disappointed ticket-holders and prompted others to suggest a fix.

big weekend - should be a huge match between Aus & South Africa, real shame you guys had to meet at this stage in the tournament, it could be a final in its own right! Heart says Oz to take it, but SA defence is very strong, it will be a real challenge for you guys

Reckon Wales will be too good for Ireland, AB's should take out the Argies and England-France... pffff who knows with that one?! Went to the Scot-Eng game last weekend, England were dire for most of the match, real shame that France or Eng will make the semis when Oz or SA won't
 
great result from the Wallabies yesterday, SA were maybe unlucky with their forward passes, but that's the way it goes on knockout. Pollock was very good. Good for the tournament as well, should mean a few more Aussies coming across for this weekend

Great to see Wales get through - they're looking very strong

No real shame to see England go out though, they were very average

We got through by the skin of our teeth, the stats were abysmal. That SA have such a poor team is what let us scrape through. Our only saving grace was Pocock in the ruck winning turnovers. We didn't have a single spell with 5+ phases. If this world cup has proved anything, it's that running rugby works and works well, but we insisted on kicking for territory.

If we play like that next week, to the gallows we shall go.

I think this may happen again... but I dare not verbalize that over here... I will be put into Coventry!

I reckon someone will pick them off, unless they get over the choking thing and pick up the intensity.

lol yeah but doesn't matter how they play, its the result that counts at this point. It sure was ugly tho, Cooper was all over the place!
 

The Lineout was the biggest problem
We lost so much of our own ball..That in turn put pressure on Cooper imo.

I would hope that does not happen against the Blacks ( and shouldn't ! ).
