Respected Posters

I agree with Julia's comment and support going with the current approach.

Looking at the comments made, so far, trying to come up with an unbiased system is probably more trouble than its worth.

People will develop there own view of which posters they see more value in reading than others. Some posters are good for amusement value and some are better value for more informative posts.

If some posters give people a real headache, then just learn how to use the ignore function.

Let's leave the the potential for arguments based on ego, jealousy or one-up-manship out of it.

Cheers.

What are you talking about?

STC

That chip on your shoulder must be getting very heavy by now.
For heaven's sake, Bobby's original suggestion had nothing to with the any levels of personal wealth or otherwise.

I would suggest to you that you significantly underrate the collective intelligence of this forum if you really think most of us judge posters on their real or suggested level of affluence.

If you were to shift your focus from always being 100% on yourself, and approached the forum with a little more generosity of spirit, you could even find yourself benefiting from the considerable amount of good will and wisdom that is here.

I don't understand all this crap about egos. I couldn't give a rats how good someone else thinks they are, or how much money they might have.

To me, success is about personal achievement, not about making lots of money or having everyone think I'm the greatest thing since sliced bread. And personal achievement is something you can't fake, unless you're very good at deceiving yourself.

I was just using an example of what could occur, when matching up users posts with a star rating system.

That said...Many users have openly discussed their financials on this board, (true or not) the stocks/property they buy, the reasons why... then inflate their egos and get other members to inflate them further. Its not a healthy approach.

I would like to see a class-less approach to this forum.

There is a direct correlation between wealth and over inflated egos and it does run rampent on this board, so to add gold stars would only make the problem worse, much worse.

Well said great Pig. And if you don't learn something new each day then you are doing your brain a miss service. Good bye for now until my next stop.

Stop

I think you are alone in feeling this way.
I know what u mean, as some posters have said about property or shares but only as an example to aid their explanation of how profitable a system may or not be.
I found it helpful.

meanwhile, so and so has $5000 in the bank, no properties and 1 gold star , we better not listen to that poster as they have nothing to their name.

Stop
Get serious
I dont think that is the approach on this forum at all

To be honest i have less than $5000 in the bank, no properties, still at uni and not working full time, but i dont think any1 really cares??

Probably the only person to give me 1 gold star or half a star (because i havent reached 5Gs) would be you, as i dont think other people on this forum judge posters this way.

As long you do your research and post something relatively useful, its all good!

One way or another, there don't seem to be too many in favour of rating posters But plenty in favour of posting raters.

I actually have more respect for you now N, for saying that (not that I didn't respect you before , ............good attitude............All the money in the world might make you rich (derr!) , but it won't make you smart!!............PS No personal ratings required here imo .............The "smartest" person in the world :millhouse can still learn something from the "dumbest" person :homer: ............unless they let their ego get in the way!!

Here I am reading this thread ,thinking why is this thread opened up. Is it a case of trying to obtain hits for the website? ,or is it really necessary to pidgeon hole a respected poster?
Stop_the clock ,seriously no offence but your comments are a bit avante garde for sunday afternoon reading ,do you care for some foie gras.

IMO about half of what you read on forums is true. I think most people have a natural tendency to exaggerate personal standings, wealth etc. Easy to do when you're just a username.

Hi Juddy, Wish I could "under" exaggerate my personal standings..................I'm about minus $75,000 !!!!atm............might be "chicken feed" to some but boy could I use an interest free loan .......any takers??.........I promise I'll pay it back ...................down but not out Barney.

c'mon now Barney, you're only $37.5k down imo.

That made me chuckle .......lots of funny people around here...............now about that loan................ anyone?? :silly: (this guy actually looks a bit like me......only he's better looking)

Exactly my point, it is human nature to box everything and everyone, categorise it, name it, label it, class it, rate it etc etc.

We have enough of this in the real world, why do it in cyberspace too.

Cannot we just have free speach (within reason) and a class-less society of forum members, rather than a tit-for-tat gold star approach, it really is childish IMO.

The last time I used the gold star approach was back in Junior primary school when each time we went to take a toilet break in class-time we got a gold star beside our names. The more gold stars either meant the student had a baldder problem or spent a lot of time bludging

Grow up children, I am sure we are all old enough, wise enough and educated enough to build our own mental picture of a members posts, and their credibility to this forum.

By the way I think Joe has better things to do with his day that to be farting around adding and subtracting gold stars to his 5000+ members, aint that right Joe? :

I suppose a lot of so called experts do lots of cut & paste! at the end of the day we are here because I assume we are all after information and opinions and in the end it always gets down to D-Y-O-R

cheers laurie

Valid Point!

Because if we just went on a 5 star respected poster system to determine what is credible or not then we would all be in the same boat as those who listen to brokers who said TLS was a good buy at $7 and CDU is expected to reach $26 and VLL was a strong buy at $2.60, all this coming from credible and respected sources.

Again DYOR... and it proves my point that a star system would not show anymore or less credibilty to the forum and would not guarantee a better success rate in the real world if advice was followed.
