Most of my life I seem to have repeated mistakes several times before finally "getting it".
A friend in Canada sent me the following poem. Can apply equally to our personal or business lives, I think.

'AUTOBIOGRAPHY IN FIVE SHORT CHAPTERS'

1.
I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in.
I am lost....I am helpless.
It isn't my fault.
It takes forever to find my way out.

2.
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don't see it.
I fall in again.
I can't believe I am in the same place.
But it isn't my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

3.
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in .... it's a habit.
My eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.

4.
I walk down the same street
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

5.
I walk down another street. "

Ah.... but Julia... you forgot the last verse...

6.
After walking down the other street for a while
I forget why I stay away from the first one...

Repeat (from Verse 1)

For a start they aren`t mistakes after the first time!

Hey Julia long time no speak... Merry Christmas by the way... There is two stories in this for me... what I see here is a kind of pessimistic behavior that this girl inflicts on herself... She knows that she about to fall but for some reason decides to keep doing it because she believes this is what she deserves... Finally has enough of it and accepts her fate won't change unless she does something about it... (very reminiscent of wives with abusive husbands or people investing poorly etc.)

The other story is that it clearly defines the phases of the learning curve. Imagine an upside down bell curve with phases 1 and 5 being the tops and phase 3 being the bottom:

1- Idealism
2- idealism and frustration
3- frustration and realization
4- realization and progress
5- Goal achieved

Just my two cents

How true is that comment! - been there too.

Amazing how thick we can be sometimes.

Not a mistake but a repeat event: just broken my right wrist!
Did the left one 5 years ago.
Dog didn't turn when I expected her to and I fell over her, landing on my arm.
Four cars and 2 cyclists went past me lying on the footpath before a samaritan stopped. So take care everyone. It's not just painful but I
can't use the r hand at all.Hugely inconvenient for 6 weeks.

Ow.. I'd like to say I know how you feel, but I'm yet to break a bone.. not looking forward to it either..

Hope it heals quicker than you expect.. and Merry [insert celebration of choice/culture here] to you..

Apologies for off topic..

Regards

Buster

Bad luck Julia. Dogs and bikes... great fun... 99.9% of the time. Your dog is OK I hope.

They say Comfrey is great for bone breaks. FWIW

A speedy recovery to you.

Howdy Julia,

I'm sorry to hear of the mishap, hope it mends well, keep well and maybe stay away from the keyboard in case it affects the healing process. I'm glad nothing worse happened, I take it that your multi legged friend is ok?

Maybe it's a blessing in disguise giving you a bit of respite and cause for reflection.

Take care and enjoy the holiday season!

Rich

Dear Julia
Get well and Merry Christmas.
I do realise the helplessness you have had when passer by just ignored not realising tomorrow one of them could have in a worse situation.
Any way to lighten you - since your right hand will be nto working in usual speed for 6 weeks so your part inaction will probably save you from the unpredictive behaviour of market in next 6 weeks. That could be a blessing in disguise.

Get well and all the best

Oh Bugga, Julia !

I suppose gardening is off the list too....unless you can plant singlehanded.Hope it mends speedily.

Very interesting topic too. I can relate

Have a very merry...

The best way to overcome making repeat "mistakes" is to keep good records of all your trades, and refer to them on a regular basis. Your losing trades (the market) are (is) good teachers especially when you refer your records back to the P/L !!!

There's nothing to beat a good trading plan and having the commitment and discipline to follow its rules.

Don't know how this can be of any comfort to Julia, other than - thats life, if it can happen then there are odds that it will happen some time in the future -------------

Take care
Peter

Gaud, some mothers do have em. :

Seriously though, not a good place to get a break. I can imagine it must be sore. I had I fall once and took the brunt of it with my right hand. Didn't break it but caused me a lot of discomfort and the wrist doesn't flex as much anymore.

Poor 'Dog' is propably going to need grief counselling now too.

I have a similar problem with four cats excitedly running around infront of me and between my legs. So far none of us have come to injury. I learnt to walk very sslooooowwlly when they are active.

Take it easy and have a good holiday. Meanwhile, I shall investigate the incident to see whether it is you or the 'Dog' who needs driving lessons.

Mrs had one last night ....

I have a large wooden treasure chest sitting in my office atm, she walked through accidently kicked her foot on it and had every "Intention" of moving the offender, anyway a few hours later she passed through again and again kicked it, this time breaking her toe - Its all good now Chest has been moved, and dont worry about me, the Mrs can still cook and is relatively mobile so I wont starve or suffer any other side effects

ps- Phoned the Hospital, said nothing much you can do for a broken toe but "strap" it ...

hope you get better soon Julia...
stay off that keyboard for a few days...
