Journey of a booth volunteer 2023 Voice Referendum

You Can apply on the AEC website.
I have heard that in the city they have enough people but in the country they are struggling.

Think Political party membership is accessible by the AEC.
Done that, been listed on the website offering my body for service to my country. Actually, I have been on that website for the past 3 elections, dutifully updated now & then. No offers. Country Lass reckons someone there knows me.

His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) has this afternoon issued the writ for the 2023 referendum to the Australian Electoral Commissioner.

The issue of writ formally sets the referendum in motion, now confirming the below dates in the referendum timeline:

  • Issue of writ: Monday 11 September

  • Postal vote applications open: 6pm, Monday 11 September
  • Enrolment deadline: 8pm, Monday 18 September

SO:

We fly out 1am on 2nd Oct, so I rang and asked for postal vote on Tues 12/ Sept

The application form hadn't arrived by Mon 19, so rang to ask for options, they said because you are going away you don't need to vote.

Tues 19th the application form arrived, filled it out and posted it.

Now let's see how long before the actual postal vote form arrives.

Obviously making it as difficult as possible to vote.

This is the 21st century, right.:roflmao:
Reads like a Three Stooges Comedy Script.

As early voting gets closer and closer, we’re firming up the plans for all the activity on booths so we win every vote we can.
And you may have seen reports recently that we got a big boost with the Liberal and National parties joining forces with Fair Australia to help coordinate polling day operations around the country.*
There’s no question the Yes campaign is using every resource at its disposal to try to buy the result through its union and activist networks, so the help of these major parties will go a long way to countering that effort.
Joining forces means more resources, more manpower, and more on-the-ground support to give us every chance of stopping them dividing our country by race in the Constitution.
What does that mean for you?
Nothing changes in terms of your volunteer commitments, however some of the local polling booth organising will now be done by coordinators from the Liberal or National parties who are volunteering on behalf of Fair Australia’s ‘NO’ campaign.
That means they might contact you on our behalf, however please note that your data will still be removed after referendum day as per our commitment to you when you first put your hand up to join our team.
In the meantime, you can review and edit your existing booth and shift allocations
Thank you again for all that you do continue to do to stop the divisive Voice in its tracks.

Let’s go hard to win this!
Another Email. Sent Friday...... Show I don't monitor the PC that often.
.
Worst thing about campaigning for independents is the lack of manpower and being alone on Prepoll and Polling days..

Good to see the Libs actually standing for something. We'll see how it really transpires to boots on the ground. Last State election they didn't even have a member at my polling booth handing out HTV cards.

Been a bit Busy.......
Had a couple of email thanking me agains...... And to get ready.... Someone will contact me

Managed to be a bit social the last few days.
Conversationally I have not met anyone that says they will vote for the voice. (Good signs?) Having wrote that I don't know the majority that voted Labor or at least admitted to.
Has to be said that I don't push my views onto people and my FB profile is pretty much hidden so there is no intimidation style convos from me.

Went to the ALF Grand final parade (support the wifes business) seem Vioce was not on anyone's list of priorities.

Saturday.
Got personal contact.

Seems a group loosely tied to the Liberal party have made groups based on electorates. (I'm in Bruce ????)
Gear hasn't arrived yet but got some flyers, T,shirt and some core flutes and will do my first shift Monday.

I'll be alone and no-one will be before me or after.

Seems like they are having a slow start but have volunteers for later days ...... maybe.
Going in now..... Wish me luck

Sure do Good luck

Interesting morning/Arvo.

4 Yes volunteers handing out HTV cards. at all times
Many signs saying YES.

I arrive with my 2 pissy signs lent against the gate.
Only got abused once by a voter. conservatively I reckon 60% voted no.

Ask for permission to cable tie my pissy signs on the fence and get the OK...... Oh the bitching and moaning but a couple of YES volunteers. (First time I felt a AEC supervisor stood up for my cause.) No-one rostered after so I had to leave. no-one came to help after. Asked the Wify nicely and she took down the pissy signs at the end of the day.
Got a feeling nearly no PrePoll booth had any HTV people handing out cards. Hopefully voters stay true to their initial intentions.

Any discussion about the yes signs being the identical colour to the AEC signs? Pretty dodgy IMO

LOL.... I don't notice these things.

No doubt they hate a level playing field. And Bitch and moan at any attempt we make to improve ourselves.

Seriously doubt any of this changes anyones vote.

My only fear is that if there are no "NO" people around then that may give the indication that we don't care.
Then again the more "YES" people there are the more it seems that the msg is forced.

Oh well the postal vote didn't arrive, but maybe that was always the plan, no vote at all is probably better than a NO vote.

Sent out messages to all my friends. (most are Asian in decent)
AS we are in a very Asian immigrant area. I felt we needed someone to help explain in an easier format what this referendum is about.

There is a Labor councilor on the YES side that hijacks them and you can tell that they vote almost 100% the way he directs them.

None of my contacts have arrived yet .... but....
N0 Volunteers are coming now thick and fast. we had representatives all day today.

FWIW...... I reckon our booth is atleat 60-40 to the NO. With my "No" glasses on could even be 70/30.

Well Thursday was just me. I even opened up.
No campaigners were over 4 in number all day changing every 2 hours.
I had to leave 2pm and no one replaced me.

The Left. Like sheep Stick together and "serve the comminuty". The right just take all the **** for granted and rely on too few. Then bitch and moan when it goes.

Couldn't be farked on Saturday and accepted the request to work in my real job. but to my knowledge the prepoll place that I attend had at least one person all day.

I'll be back on board Monday. One week to go.

I had a dream.

I aspired to Live my dream.

Despite being in the minority by Money, "people on the ground" and having a voice in the media I was able to make my dream come true and live upto my aspirations. Though pure will and effort.

Been a busy and draining 2 weeks and I am still not over it.

Hope to post a final debrief later.

Electroate won by Labour by 57% on the primary.

594 No
564 Yes
~14 imformal.

An amazing result and an amazing low informal vote. Despite a lot not wanting to have to vote.
