Yes, absolutely. It has been an extremely important part of human development. It had kept law and order in check for much of the past 3000 years. And, for a very, very large proportion of the population still is a crux. But now we know that the Earth is not the centre of the Universe, God/s are myth to explain the unexplainable and praying to Saints is sheer craziness, we should now move on.A bit off the current topic. Is there any value at all in religion?
I knew a few ex Edmund Rice College boys and the stories they told of the behaviour of the male staff there was shocking. Quite few devoutly Catholic Italian families sent their boys there, so when ever things got reported the families were basically brow beaten into silence.
I cannot understand how a parent could let someone else tell them what to do when their child's safety is at risk.

I think your quote is more New Age Philosophy than religion...

France to deport 'radical foreign imams'
French Interior Minister Manuel Valls has said that Paris is set to deport a string of radical religious imams as part of a fight against "global jihadism".
"Several radical foreign preachers will be expelled in the coming days," Valls told a Brussels conference called to tackle extremism in Europe on Tuesday, without identifying any of the individuals concerned.
"I don't confuse this radical Islam with the Islam of France but there is a religious environment, there are Salafist groupings, who are involved in a political process, whose aim is to monopolise cultural associations, the schooling system," he added.
"We will expel all these imams, all these foreign preachers who denigrate women, who hold views that run counter to our values and who say there is a need to combat France.

+1. I agree and it is time for Australia to do the same.
Saudi preacher gets off light for raping, killing daughter
A Saudi preacher who raped his five-year-old daughter and tortured her to death has been sentenced to pay "blood money" to the mother after having served a short jail term, activists said on Saturday.
Lamia al-Ghamdi was admitted to hospital on December 25, 2011 with multiple injuries, including a crushed skull, broken ribs and left arm, extensive bruising and burns, the activists said. She died last October 22.
Fayhan al-Ghamdi, an Islamic preacher and regular guest on Muslim television networks, confessed to having used cables and a cane to inflict the injuries, the activists from the group "Women to Drive" said in a statement.
They said the father had doubted Lama's virginity and had her checked up by a medic.
Randa al-Kaleeb, a social worker from the hospital where Lama was admitted, said the girl's back was broken and that she had been raped "everywhere", according to the group.
According to the victim's mother, hospital staff told her that her "child's rectum had been torn open and the abuser had attempted to burn it closed."
The activists said that the judge had ruled the prosecution could only seek "blood money (compensation for the next of kin under Islamic law) and the time the defendant had served in prison since Lama's death suffices as punishment."
Three Saudi activists, including Manal al-Sharif, have raised objections to the ruling.
The ruling is based on Islamic laws that a father cannot be executed for murdering his children, nor can husbands be executed for murdering their wives, activists said.
Sickening....
Thats probably too shocking to post here, women and all, it's a sick world out there and sometimes it's traumatising just to hear about it.
I hope they take an interest in nuclear bombs over there and connect the wrong wires and blow the place completely off the map.
99% of the world will not put up with this....
Its probably been happening for centuries. Now with the world a smaller place, due to the internet and global communication, they cannot keep their sick and bent religious beliefs a secret anymore...
May they all burn in hell.

Maybe.
But we live in the real world and should know what is happening out there.
Worst part. USA are major allies with the Saudis.
It's hard to understand world politics and sometimes you just shake your head and walk away.
Where are the Islamic 'moderates' criticising this?Sickening....
Where are the Islamic 'moderates' criticising this?
I suppose we've all been moderate or extremist at certain times to suite our own strategic objectives. Are they moderate or just pretend so they appear to fit in ?
