Joe thought my idea - flagged previously in the Private Members thread - for a new forum might work if enough members could be willing contributors.
So here is the idea:

Create a new forum for:
RECENT COMPANY ANNOUNCEMENTS

The initial focus would be ASX50 companies (let's start small), although members with broader interests could contribute for other ASX companies as they felt the need.

To begin, I envisaged Joe "farming out" ASX50 companies to those posters who "bid" to be responsible for the posting - let's call them "originators".
  • The contribution would comprise key points, cut and pasted from the company release, plus the originator's opinion on the announcement
  • A link to the announcement and financials etc., would round off the posting.
Others could then add their 2cents. Hopefully some decent contributions would ensue.
I did not see the need for any "permissions" to be given to any originators, as Joe would do the tidying up.

After a fortnight I envisaged Joe marrying the postings from this forum back into the individual stock code's thread. That way at least every 6 months these major companies will be up to date as it were. And hopefully that of itself will encourage more contributions to each stock's thread.

The idea of keeping posts in this new forum for such a short period of time was to make it easy to see which companies had recent announcements, focus comments on the stock's immediate situation, and maintain the thread's "currency" of information. It would also mean that it was easily navigable as a relatively small number of rotating offerings would be available to view.

The idea would give ASF significant credibility when newcomers popped in to see how useful this site can be.

I personally could easily do 20 companies, but that's not the point, as many others here will be better placed to be originators for companies they have followed closely for a long time.

Anyhow, for the idea to run you will need to make a commitment, and Joe will track it so that the new forum gets those contributions you agreed to originate.

I told Rob that I support this idea and that it had a lot of potential as long as we could get enough people on board to lend a hand and make it a success.

I would be interested in hearing any feedback from the ASF community about this approach to increasing the amount of posts in stock threads and whether there are any volunteers willing to take on a company that they follow or have in interest in.

Thanks Joe and Redo, this seems like a very good idea to me.

My prime decisions are based on Company manoeuvring and in particular I seek out an idea of management credentials, a lot of this from their involvement in previous companies also. This has been a prime reason for my recent interest in those small caps MOY and IVR. Charting comes into the timing of course, but put together the other elements, particularly the product at the time (in this case gold and silver) can be a powerful approach in my view.

Good on you rederob.

I agree, the concept has a lot of merit IMO.
It could be as usefull as bigdogs daily thread on the markets, which I find excellent.
Also it could be beneficial to the members who decide to contribute, it would encourage them to constantly monitor the stocks they cover and keep their eye on the ball so to speak.
The only problem I can see from a personal perspective, is having the time to dedicate to the thread, due to family and travel commitments. If that wasn't an issue I would be very interested.:xyxthumbs
