Reasons to be cheerful on the Global Economy

@TimeISmoney we're on the same page, there is no chance Australia is going to become a manufacturing nation again, but if the politicians actually did their jobs they could demand that where possible critical infrastructure is at least assembled here.

As with the new Metronet trains in Perth, it at least gives kids opportunities to gain skills and options other than having to go to Uni to get a degree in being a barista and have a HECS debt to pay, while we bring in tradespeople from overseas.

As I've said several times, I can't see why CATYL, Tesla, LG or Samsung etc can't be encouraged to build a battery plant here to build grid storage batteries, as we are going to be buying thousands of them on a never ending basis and having them sourced locally makes a huge amount sense from a skills and security perspective.

It is just easier for politicians to become talking heads and do nothing, except set up their future post politics, it is just a sad state of affairs IMO.

A Labor government will also launch a National Battery Strategy and launch a Powering Australia Industry Growth Centre as part of the plan if it wins next week’s federal election.

Labor’s plan is about ensuring the full value of Australia’s critical minerals are realised locally, Mr Husic said.

“We’ve got the people, we’ve got the resources, we’ve got the capital: We just haven’t had government willing to bring it all together and ensure that we manufacture batteries here in Australia,” Mr Husic told InnovationAus.com.

“We know the demand for batteries here is significant, not just to power EVs – as important as that is – but energy storage systems will be critical and meeting the needs of industry and businesses, along with a huge appetite from households to store energy generated from their rooftop solar.
