NZ ACTIVISTS PLANNED 'WAR ON WHITE PEOPLE'

Race war claims: New Zealand police stand guard during the raids earlier this week (One News, NZ)

Activists arrested during an anti-terrorist sweep across New Zealand were planning on waging a war in which white people would die, according to released documents.
Police arrested 17 people on Monday and recovered several weapons during a series of raids targeting Maori and environmental activists.
At a bail hearing for one of the arrested men, Jamie Lockett, prosecutors said he had sent a series of text messages saying he intended to launch a war.
The messages, intercepted by police, were said to include "White men are going to die in this country" and "I'm declaring war on this country very soon".
Lockett was described in court as an active participant in a group that had the potential to make a violent impact on New Zealand society.
Prominent Maori activist Tame Iti was also preparing to declare war, according to police documents reported in the Dominion Post newspaper.
The documents, disclosed by police to lawyers for the accused, showed authorities had been monitoring Iti for 18 months, videoing his training camps and intercepting text messages, the newspaper quoted a source as saying.
Iti was said to have stated three months ago that he had stopped all his other activities "to make war on New Zealand".
The source described the movement as "comical" and "amateurish" with the group buying military uniforms from an army surplus store.

Police Association president Greg O'Connor said the operation was "triggered by credible intelligence of a serious threat to New Zealand's safety and security".

"We need to realise there are fringe elements in our society, as in all others, that draw inspiration and encouragement from extremist activities overseas that most of us would find horrifying."
Police spokesman Jon Neilson said although weapons and "other armaments" had been seized during the raids, police would not go into specifics nor confirm media reports that a napalm bomb was among the contraband.
Most of those arrested face firearms charges.

Too much haka allowed, was my first thought, after all this is not your love thy everybody song.

Somebody might also say, that tables turned and white man is on the receiving end.

NZ police criticised over anti-terrorism raids
By New Zealand correspondent Peter Lewis=

New Zealand police are facing mounting criticism over their anti-terrorism operation as they carry out further raids on the homes of political and environmental activists.

They have made more arrests and upgraded firearms charges against some of those already in custody.
Maori Party co-leader Pita Sharples says recent raids on an isolated rural community in the North Island and a number of other centres had put race relations in New Zealand back 100 years.

Green Party MP Keith Locke says the use of anti-terrorism laws to crackdown on an alleged paramilitary conspiracy seems spurious.
"There's a temptation for the security intelligence service, police and that to try and have their terrorists to keep up with what's happening in America, Britain or wherever and there's a bit of that in this," he said.

High Court appeal

Lawyers for high-profile Maori activist Tama Iti are planning a High Court appeal after failing in a bid to have him released on bail.

Although arrested on the basis of warrants issued under New Zealand's anti-terrorism laws, the 55-year-old radical has so far only been charged with possession of firearms, including a military-style rifle.
His family, who were in court in Rotorua for his bail hearing, said they were sad and disappointed by his continued incarceration.

Moana Jackson of the Maori Law Commission says authorities seem to be following the international precedents of detaining terrorism suspects indefinitely without laying terrorist charges.

Reminds me of Haneff case legitimacy struggles.

Also proof that we are not ready yet to leave the idea of innocent until proven guilty behind.

Reactive order maintenance is old news we have to accept that at some stage we must move to proactive approach.

Happy - Do we want to leave the idea of innocent until proven guilty behind.???????????????

Or would you just rather dispense with our justice system and slap everyone who looks sus in the Gulag or Guantanamo camp.

better hope the thought police don't come-a-knockin on your door....

this is just a local maori militant group taking some inspiration from overseas struggles which doing quite well. i understand why the guy feels that way - a native maori sees his ancestors country invaded and settled by a bunch of whites and then asians. get a few mates, some guns, a few secret passwords and off you go.

new anti-terrorism laws enacted everywhere make stamping out amateurish attempts like this pretty straighforward, but the ability for people to gather information on how to be an insurgent makes it much easier for home grown groups to spring up. luckily for us weapons are tightly controlled so getting access to the guns needed for any serious attempt is extremely difficult.

Recent talks suggest that crime is going to be crime as soon as it is an idea.

And it only looks fair.

Reminds me of debate when child is a child, currently it is embryo, hope it doesn’t move back much further than that.

Considering the British had to strike a deal after failing to win the war against them, a lot of the hard-line Maori must be peeved. Could turn into a very interesting situation if the government doesn’t tread carefully.

Reminds me of something that happened in NZ where I was working 50+years ago. A pommie carpenter was abusing a 70 yr old maori and said to the Maori that if he ( the maori) was 50 years younger he would get his face punched in. The old fella looked the younger one in the eye and said " son if this was 50 years ago I'd be soon sitting here eating your liver"
