Query re Logging Out

Hi Joe or anyone who can help :)

It appears to me that users listed as online might not actually even have their pc's turned on at that time

About 10 mins ago a few electrons must have gone awol or something because my pc had a massive seizure and I had to turn the power off to reboot. Obviously I didn't have a chance to click the Logout button prior to turning off the power to my pc.

When my pc rebooted and was back in the land of the living I went to this site's home page and lo and behold I saw that I was still logged on.

As an experiment, without clicking the Logout button I then clicked the 'x' in the top right hand corner of my IE browser to close the window and after I came back to this home page I again saw that I was still logged on.

So my query is: if a user powers off his/her pc or clicks the browser 'x' button without clicking the Logout button first, is he/she actually logged off and does their username disappear from the online users list and reappear when they reconnect to this site, or does their username remain on the online users list at all times until they eventually click Logout thus giving a misleading indication that they are actually there when in reality they are not?

cheers

Hi Bullmarket,

You will remain logged in as long as you don't actually click 'Log Out' although you will only remain on the 'Users Online' list for 30 minutes after your last interaction with the forums. It was originally 15 minutes but I changed it to 30 minutes at the request of a member who was having a problem with the 'New Posts' function.

If you don't 'Log Out' but come back to ASF hours later you will still be logged in. This does not mean, of course, that you will have been in the 'Users Online' list all that time. After 30 minutes you would have dropped off that list as normal.

So to summarise:

1. Unless you actually 'Log Out' you will be automatically logged in again when you return to ASF, whether it be in an hour, a week or a month (as long as you use the same PC and browser). This simply means you do not have to go through the process of entering your username and password every time you visit the forums - unless, of course, you prefer it that way.
2. All users will remain in the 'Users Online' list for 30 minutes after their last interaction with the forums.

I think that's everything. :)

Re: Query re Logging In

Hi Joe and anyone who can help.

Curiosity has finally got the better of me...!!!!... :banghead:

I notice that everytime I log in my name, bullmarket, always appears first in the online users list when everybody else appears in alphabetical order.

Even when nics begining with an 'a' are online bullmarket appears before them on the users list.

It doesn't concern me at all whether bullmarket appears first or in alphabetical order - I am just curious as to why my name always appears first

cheers

Bullmarket,

Your username only appears first in the list of online users to you. When I look at the online users, I'm first and then everyone else is listed in alphabetical order, including you. All users see themselves first and then all other members in alphabetical order.

Hope that answers your question.

hi again dutchie :)

don't mind me...I'm just fooling around

I'll have to see if I can find an emoticon that says 'tongue firmly planted in cheek' for when I'm mucking around...the big grin emoticon just isn't quite the same. :(

Anyway, have a nice evening and I'll see you in the soup :)

cheers
