Queensland politics

I think I also agreed with you about the spread of Islam and the craziness of religion so maybe we aren't all that different after all.

But , on the other hand...

And here I believed we were poles apart....or is it polls?

Just goes to show, ya can't be right all the time.

NSW has an upper house and didn't seem to help them much when it comes to stopping corruption. You need an ICAC and not the hobbled CMC.

Supreme Court Judges are supposed to be on a pinacle in their ivory towers handing out justice to plebs with whom they have no rapport. Knowledge of the lifestyles of the common might impair their judgment. How dare Premier Newman appoint Tim Carmody, a common man, to be Chief Justice and not even consult the legal fraternity on it. They are horrified and are rubbishing Carmody, led by the vocal Tony Fitzgerald.

He said "Unfortunately, if its totally unsuitable choice is sworn in as Chief Justice, the damage to the courts and the independence of the judiciary will be irreversible." What he means is the choice is unsuitable to him and the close-knit legal fraternity. They lose - the working class win. By all accounts he is a nice bloke with the wrong background.

The swearing in of such an appointee is usually a very public affair. The Newman government were so afraid the legal establishment would fail to attend that they have carried out this swearing in privately.
The whole matter has been poorly handled by all sides imo.

He was found by an appeals court to have cut and pasted part of a judgement (naturally his decision was overturned). A mediocre intellect for a mediocre state.

Looks like Labor have won the election.
Like in New Zealand, managing the covid spread appears to help the incumbent win votes.

A totally insipid and nearly invisible opposition didn't hurt either.

Even news corp are calling a Labor win not surprising really Palaszczuk has played the COVID pretty much to script.

There are complaints, of course, but whether by luck or by design, we've been pretty okay here, especially for us in "essential" businesses, state debt seems to be a concern however.

The woman in Charge of the disastrous Dtrainwreck that was the Queensland DNA lab, is till employed by the QLD health dept, depite the damning report into her management (or lack thereof).
From Evil Murdoch press
In the usual sloth like speed of a government department, the nprocedural problems at the scientific lab and the outdated testing faclities have yet to be be adressed.

So the last of the bosses in charge of both state and federal politics during the COVID era.
Queensland Premier Palaszczuk has announced her retirement.
After months of speculation, gentle reminders from the Unions, and falling poll numbers, she has fallen or been pushed on her sword.

She has anointed her deputy who is from the same faction, as her successor.
I is unlikely anyone else will be game to stand against him, they will all b lining up for the deputies job.

And we now have a Queensland premier Miles who is another son of the WEF:
a 2007 graduate of Al Gore brainwashing university.
These leaders Trudeau, Macron , etc are all selected, pushed by the WEF in position of power across the world
In our case, Miles propably did not pass the minimum IQ to join the young leader nurturing school and just got the lower degree
Was Miles allowed to scratch the head of the naked cat on the lap of the evil bald Master..or was he the cat
Seriously, I invite southerners of YouTube a few of his speeches from the past and see how regardless of your side of the political board, you can pity Qld now...

Judging by yesterdays super byelection day results, you probably won't have to worry about your dislike of Miles
From Evil Murdoch Press.

There were also local government elections statewide.
The LNP have retained control of Brisbane City Council, with varying results in other cities.
The Greens made some gains, but not as much as they had hoped.
In perhsps a harbinger of things to come, the Labour member who has held the Mayoral position in Townsville, looks like losing her job to an ex One Nation candidate.
Lotsa funny things happen in Queensland.

In one of those rats deserting a sinking ship moments, Qld Premier Miles has another long serving member take the leap.
Julienne Gilbert is one of four Labor MPs retiring at the election, alongside, Attorney-General Yvette D'Ath , Srirling Hinchcliffe and Barry O'Rourke
QLD has already lost former premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Jim maddern who both quit parliament last year.

Queensland Politics are starting to rival those of Victoria for their eye opening moments.
Steve Andrews, only Queensland Pauline Hanson One Nation MP in the State Parliament has defected to the Bob Katter group.
This means that in the upcoming state election, the Katter group will have four MP's running.
The greens, who get perhaps a little more publicity, have only two.
If Andrews manages to get re-elected along with the other 3, their group is going to have some significant sway in the event that the unicameral house has a hung parliament.
Could be interesting after October.

I'm not really sure which thread to put this in but apparently there have been boom Gates installed at the New South Wales/Queensland border.

Ominous?

Is it to stop NSW folk getting in or stopping Queenslanders from getting out??

Huddled around a single candle appears to only be for the plebeians.
