Queensland needs an upper house like other states to be a watch dog......I think we had one until 1929 but I am not sure why it was abandoned.
I believe the upper house could be made up of Council mayors.......there are enough of them......but it would add to admin costs.
The problem we are over governed now......

Whatever Mr Carmody is accused of during his tenure, it won’t be elitism or failing to grasp the reality of working class life.
He originated light years away from the privileged background of many senior jurists. Born in 1956 in Millmerran, he was still a boy when the family moved to Inala in 1963, taking up residence in a Housing Commission home.

Knowledge of the lifestyles of the common might impair their judgment.How dare Premier Newman appoint Tim Carmody, a common man, to be Chief Justice and not even consult the legal fraternity on it. They are horrified and are rubbishing Carmody, led by the vocal Tony Fitzgerald.
He said "Unfortunately, if its totally unsuitable choice is sworn in as Chief Justice, the damage to the courts and the independence of the judiciary will be irreversible." What he means is the choice is unsuitable to him and the close-knit legal fraternity. They lose - the working class win. By all accounts he is a nice bloke with the wrong background.

After the final report was handed down on December 13, the lab managers were given three weeks to respond to show-cause notices.

Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said she had been advised by her department not to “go into the circumstances surrounding their release … but I can confirm they are no longer employees of forensic services”.

“We do have a backlog in relation to just the normal evidence that comes to the doors of forensic services every week,” she said.
“That is due to a range of reasons, including a shortage of the scientists, but also because we did lose staff through the commission of inquiry, and we have to rebuild our processes. We also had to reset how we test.”

“When I lead this party from an opposition of just seven members I said that the first election would be like climbing Mount Everest – I went on to climb that mountain twice more and I don’t need to do it again,” she said
“I have given it my all and I have run a marathon.

MickLabor’s long-serving Mackay MP Julieanne Gilbert has announced she will retire from politics to allow for “renewal”, but insists Premier Steven Miles can still win October’s state election.
There had been persistent rumours Ms Gilbert, who has represented the sugar and mining town since 2015, was planning to quit at the election but she said she had made the decision “recently” after discussions with her husband.
“ I am 62 this year and each term now is four years, the used to be a little over two years, so you need to be committed for the next four years,” she told The Australian.
“I feel as though it is time for a bit of renewal and refreshment and for a younger person to take over the reins.
“Mackay is a wonderful place with so much going for it so I would like to see somebody who is able to commit for the long-term.”
Her announcement comes a week after YouGov polling revealed Labor was on track for a bruising defeat at the October 26 election with the Liberal National Party extending its lead on a statewide two-party-preferred basis of 57-43 per cent.
Confirming her plans to retire to The Australian, Ms Gilbert said she believed Mr Miles could deliver a fourth-term for the Labor government.
“I believe he will get across the line,” she said.
“Out doorknocking and on the phones, the conversations I am having do not reflect anything that is coming through in the media polls.”
Her Old Guard faction is now jostling to find a replacement candidate for the seat – held on a 8.3 per cent margin – with Labor sources saying Mackay Deputy Mayor Belinda Hassan is the frontrunner.
Under Labor’s affirmative action rules, Ms Gilbert must be replaced by a woman.
