If your a professional such as a Lawyer/Accountant/Doctor etc you'll need it.
If a Builder/Carpenter/Plumber chances are you wont.

PI is exhorbitant, and only necessary for people who provide advice without product (in my understanding).
Can I assume you have public liability insurance.
If you supply designed product for instance, then the design element can be covered by simply extending your PL insurance , then you can extend that with "product liability" - a fraction of the cost of PI,
Provided there's hardware / product involved, then its design is covered
Depends what you do. For medical/pharmacy consulting part time I use Guild Insurance which gives cheapest rates, for 10mil prof indemnity I pay about 4k/annum. Also does my worker's comp.
