I'm thankfully no longer part of the corporate world with its endless conferences, team bonding exercises and nonsensical jargon.

Prof Robert Spillane, from Macquarie University's School of Management has some fascinatingly caustic criticisms about what he calls 'psycho management' in this interview with Richard Fidler.

Prof Spillane covers some diverse territory, from the uselessness of personality/aptitude testing, to the very worrying trend of sticking a label of ADHD on very young children so they can be medicated with high powered drugs with all their side effects. He quotes children under the age of two being "diagnosed" as having bipolar disorder!

He also discusses the trend to reduced personal responsibility via the process of medicalising everything from gambling to eating.

One of the best hour's listening I've had for a long time.

I think that the ADHD (or ADD) labelling of young kids is out of control. This was mentioned some time ago in the media. Record numbers of kids are getting drugged up by our doctors (and in other countries).

For heavens' sake, please do not lay blame with Doctor's. Parents are usually the problem putting pressure on practitioner's because they are to preocupied to watch the childs' suger intake. I am not in the medical field, just a Grandparent. chrisalex

Agree that parents - and teachers sometimes - put pressure on doctors but that's the difference between good and poor doctors, i.e. that instead of succumbing to the pressure for a prescription, they take the time and additional resources to find a better solution.
