Good morning girls and boys,
I've been a long time user of Amibroker, Stator and Premium Data. I'm contemplating moving across to Norgate Data. I'm not yet convinced I need to move from Premium to Norgate as Premium continues to serve me well with no issues. I understand the differences between the two data services but these differences aren't enough to motivate me to move, yet. Maybe I'm missing something? Anyone here made the move? I'd really be interested to hear what made you move.
Cheers all,
MA

It's a small thing but for me the deciding factor was the way it updates the data.

With premium data you have to close Amibroker before running the updater. With Norgate the updater runs in the background and Amibroker warns you when it needs updating. You can then update the data while keeping, Amibroker and any formulas open with any settings.

should i stay or should I go?

No reason why you shouldn't go now if Norgate has everything you want and need.

I signed up before my Premium data subscription expired to take advantage of the Norgate free trial and ran both in parallel to make sure everything worked. It was worthwhile because I found a few things I needed to change.

As an existing Premium subscriber you can get a discount on the first years subscription to Norgate and once you have made the switch you can close your premium data account and transfer the remaining days in your premuim subscription to your new norgate subscription. Details are at,

I would have thought the one and only reason to use Norgate is the delisted securities available to backtest.

If your not backtesting then I wouldn't bother unless the lower basic plans are cheaper than Premium Data.

Edit: by the way, used Stator. The way things where done, hated it (yes "hated") :) Tried numerous times to get into it but couldn't. Now using Sharesight and is OK but doesn't have your full financials, just shares but does it well.

I've got a bit of a hack going on for backtesting with delisted securities and it is a bit of a pain but it works. Norgate is definitely appealing for delisted as it will be a lot more streamlined than my current hack. Stator's reporting functionality is second to none but the real reason I went to it was because of its unitisation functionality--I'm moving cash in and out of my portfolios and without unititation this would adversely impact the performance measurement of my portfolios.

I've made the switch to Norgate. Apart from the obvious advantages over Premium in terms of the actual data there are two things about Norgate that I think are a great improvement over Premium. First, the integration of Norgate into Amibroker and the way data updates are performed is a big improvement. Second, I really like the fundamental data that is included with Norgate. A stock's fundamentals can now be quickly and easily viewed in Amibroker's information window. I had a horrible hack going on to address survivorship bias with my Premium data so Norgate's approach to this is also a big improvement over my hack. Overall I'm happy I made the switch--I got a sign on discount and my remaining Premium time added to my Norgate service.

Hi,

I was wondering which Norgate plan you went with?

Thanks
Ben.

Hi Ben, I signed up to their ASX platinum package and one of the main reasons I went for that package was that I wanted access to delisted stocks.

I thought i would bump this thread because myself and another member were discussing the differences between Norgate and Premium data via pm's. I thought it might be of interest to others also.

The point i was making was just because you may have the PD delisted securities watchlist you can't just run a backtest on the watchlist and it be free from survivorship bias. Norgate has a built in function NorgateIndexConstituentTimeSeries() this allows you to make sure that a security is part of a certain watchlist on a bar by bar basis. If this isn't included then the backtests won't be as accurate as they can be.

This is a very good point. There are a few different functions that come with Norgate Data that help you use their data.

One of the features I really like with Norgate is the NDU’s ability to allow users to create custom dynamic watch lists. Once you’ve created a dynamic watch list the NDU will automatically manage its constituents
