Hi All,

Been some time since I was active in the aussie stock forums.

I have been working on my strategy etc and getting close to where I want it to be.

I'm hoping someone can assist me with a question related to data (from Premium Data's service).

I currently subscribe to end of day data for the ASX and have a number of custom folders that I use in scanning the market with my charting software.

My question is - Is there a custom folder of data for the market sectors for the ASX?

The purpose of this data is that I want to be able to run a scan using my software that looks at the relative strength of each sector compared to the overall market (ASX all ords). From this I can then identify which sectors are strongest and then move down to individual stocks relative strength within that sector and then do my analysis of the charts.

Anyone got any clues regarding this??

Thanks in advance

The ASX Indices folder is probably where you need to look although you will be limited to ASX200 or ASX300 sectors.

I think you mean the Indices of each sector but I only have Amibroker to guide you to them. If you have Amibroker, the sectors that you want are in ---

Groups -> Indices(4)

So I set the Automatic Analysis to --- use Filter -> Define -> Group. From the drop down menu alongside Group there is the Indices(4) so click on that and you access the Sector Indices for exploration/scanning.

To find them outside Auto Analysis then open Symbols -> and there you have All,Markets,Groups, Sectors,GICS,Watchlists. Note that in the Sector section is the constituents of each Sector. I think you want the Sector Indices first step hence the guidance above. :)

Thanks Wysiwyg.

I'm not using Amibroker but I'm guessing the key terms you used may assist me in my search.

Thanks very much for the reply and I'll see what I can find!

A question relating to CHI-X and ASX data. Premium Data only supply ASX data so there is a big gap in the overall or actual Australian securities trading data. Anyone have an opinion on this?

I believe Chi-X is only 10-20% the volume of any one stock. So not sure if its going to make a huge difference with daily data. Also ASX still command the opening and closing prints so the open and close prices will be correct. You may miss some extreme highs and lows but mostly it if its different to the ASX it will be on thin volume.

For system testing purposes (using Premium Data, great service by the way) the data is insufficient because of the different highs, lows and volume which I have seen to 50% of ASX volume on CHI-X. The results for system test using solely ASX data versus CHI-X data would be completely different. To get the true data would need a combination of both markets. Example today High, Low and Volume (42% of ASX)
