Poms Even Whinge in Paradise

It's amusing that the POME's (Prisoner of Mother England) sent the convicts to Australia and law abiders stayed in England.....LMFHO

Only a pommie whinger could come up with that generalisation. The number of convicts transported to Australia was minimal. The greater number of people that came to Australia from England were free settlers or assisted passage settlers, all pioneers in a new country. People brave enough to forsake the poverty and disease of England in the 1800's and strike forth in a new country. LMFHO

I lived 5 years in England and 7 years in Australia. The only difference I noted is that the whingeing is pronounced differently. :p:

In London, Aussies are always whinging - about the cold, the cost of housing, the cost of beer, the fact that English women are too "stuck up" to date an Aussie etc etc:)

The cost factor depends on whether you obtained a job before leaving, and that applies wherever you go. Some just do bar work which is lowly paid, and the clever ones amongst us get a contract before leaving that should pay many times the minimum wage in the UK - about £5.80 an hour ($12.00).

Petrol, alcohol and cigarettes are highly taxed in the UK. Depending on where you shop, including online, UK goods and food are generally cheaper than in Australia - exchange rates are bouncing around a lot, so that factor needs to be taken into account.

The weather in the UK is grim but it has warmed up a lot in the South over the last 40 years I've been here, on and off. Try Canada in winter and the UK is relatively warm.

You will find women here OK if you're not right in their face and too friendly first off. A bunch of Aussies on holiday frighten them off.
