Patience & Effort with Aboriginals

I think what he did to that young girl was unforgivable, she has to live with that stigma the rest of her life.
Australian of the Year ? What a joke.
An attention seeking conceited individual.

Big deal, she got thrown out of a football match.

Serves her right. Respect goes both ways, I hope she learned that.

She got thrown out of a football match on national television, there's a difference there don't you think ?

The replay of that incident will go on and on forever.

Respect has to be earned and Goodes did the cause a lot of damage that day, plenty of people feel as I do and they wont forget.

So before that incident, what did Goodes do to earn the disrespect that that girl gave him ?

Nothing more than when people call her fat or stupid or anything else that goes on all day in life, but most people don't grandstand when they get insults.

If by "most people" you mean white anglo saxons like us, then you're right, because we are part of the majority and racial taunts can be over-ruled by weight of numbers.

I really don't know how I would feel as a member of a minority to be regarded by a ignorant child as being sub-human, but I really can't think of a worse insult that I could apply to an indigenous person.

Maybe in some people's eyes Goodes over-reacted, but then his reactions are being judged mostly by people who would not have the faintest idea what an insult was laid on him by that girl.

Adam Goodes is in my view a publicity seeker who's actions fail to serve the greater goal of reconciliation in terms of one country, one people regardless of individual race.

Agree with you doc, not much different to Michael Long, he seems to be using the AFL as a platform for his future aspirations.

Which in itself isn't an issue, however he seems to be losing his calm measured persona, which would have stood him in good stead.IMO

I always had a lot of respect, for the dignified way, he has carried the mantle of an AFL legend,

He now seems to be losing that decorum and dignity, which he has been famous for.

I understand his frustration, but I don't think he is laying foundations for a political career. Sad really

Having said that, I thought the war dance was well presented, it was as good as the NZ haka, IMO.

I think a lot of people see him that way.
Making him Australian of the year was a worse decision than giving a knighthood to Prince Philip.

And who would be the indigenous exemplar of reconcilliation in your view ? Most other aboriginals just seem to be whinging about the bad white man or living on settlements on our money getting drunk, and the few who are active like Noel Pearson don't seem to be getting listened to by the current government.

The situation for them has not improved after many years of government by both parties, but I'm sure you have all the answers to the problem.

One does not have to have all the answers to a complex area of policy to observe an individual act and draw a conclusion on whether it is right or wrong.

On that, Adam Goodes's energies would be better fully directed towards the opposition team in the context of what takes place on the sporting arena rather than at the crowd in the stands or an element of that crowd.

The latter though it seems is what generates the greater publicity.
