hi folks
I'm thinking about giving my windows computer the flick and use my Mac all the time.

But some programs run on windows only - and I need those programs.

I've done some research online and I'm trying to compare Pararells vs VMware fusion: which one would you recommend?

thanks a lot!

Hi Cestlavie,

I am an Apple Dealer and either one of those 2 are fine, it probably depends which you can get for the best price as much as anything. I think VMware has better ongoing pricing in terms of upgrades.

If you want to PM me about your hardware choice etc as well and I can advise you.

What software are you using in windows? there usually alternative or similar software on the mac
I got three macbook pro and some PC but if I have to use virtual machine I use Vmware

good move to the mac though, spend more time doing less time fixing :D
maybe take a bit of time to adjust from windows world but it wouldn't be more than a few days

I got the first model of macbook pro retina display and it still going as fast as the day I bought it some 3 years ago.
kids has later model but this is my go to work machine and if it ever break down I buy another one without second thought.

I do everything on it and take with me every where :)

Hi Cestlavie,

Don't forget to take a look at Virtual Box if you are looking at a free option. It is more than capable for everyday software tasks and could be suitable for your purpose.

Here is relatively recent article comparing all three programs

I have been using 'Crossover' by Codeweavers for several years running FCharts Pro. In that time I have had zero problems. Crossover does not require a simulator or windows license or rebooting. This setup is recommended. HOWEVER last week I downloaded the beta version of ProTA 4 which is due for release in the next couple of days. ProTA4 is made specifically for Mac OS 10 and has me very excited! At the moment Mac users have more choices than at any other time.

Long time lurker but first post because I actually have something helpful to add!

I have been using VMWare on a 2010 iMac for a while.
I have upgraded to 16g of RAM and a 512g solid state HD.

Running VMWare works works well.
The Mac can slow down a bit if you have VMware running in the background and multiple OSX apps open.
If you pause the VMW, then no problems.
I was amazed at the speed increase with the new ram and SS HD.

If your buying a new system I'm sure it'll fly......

I recently bought my first Mac, a MacBook Pro. I was really hesitant as I use NT. I can fumble my way around a comp with a bunch of google searches but I was worried I would have install and ongoing issues.

I am running Windows 10 through VMware. I have Windows open on my second screen. It has run perfect so far. Very impressed with how easy it all has been :xyxthumbs
