I'm a big fan of Tolle. He knows what time it is (excuse my rap parlance).

Unfortunately, none of the audience nor Oprah herself seem to really get it. They just nod along demonstrably, as if to say "oh yes, wonderful!" Next thing you know they are in hysterics over receiving a new car.
 

Prawn, that's entirely reasonable, and there are many people I admire and respect. But this hysterical fan stuff is something quite different.
 

I'm not sure if Tolle knows the time at all, even "now". He was very dysfunctional and, in my opinion, has woven himself into his present position by picking up on the mindfulness theory / research / practices of others. With a modest literature background he has come to the very self-centred view that he is now a spiritual guide. I find his deliveries to be repetitive, fluffy and vapid. If you deconstruct his writings they are shallow - if not empty.

Still, each to his/her own. I am just offering a personal view. He is certainly successful as measured by book sales.
 

Agreed. The adoration people give celebrities has always puzzled me.
 
There was an article in the AGE, voicing horror at Julia's appearance at the Oprah roadshow. The article was by one Peter Costello, and read (in part)-
