It seems as if a goodly lesson has been learnt by the Taliban on how not to behave in Nigeria.

Summary justice, aggressive command and control and political will seem to work against these godbothering monsters.

Let us hope that Indonesia and other ASEAN countries bedevilled by these godbothering monsters learn from Nigeria's example.

If you are fighting an enemy who is willing to kill himself in order to take out many of you, it is best to take him and his ilk out first, and quickly.

I fully agree GG. The main problem with fanatical maniacs like the Taliban and Al Quaida is that for every mongrel that gets taken out 5 more step up to the plate to take their place.

IMHO the only way to initially slow the trend and in time cure the cancer of their brand of terrorism is to infiltrate the upper eschelons of their political heirachy and work 'inside out' change their entire ethos.:2twocents

The same thing happened during WW2 with the Japanese suicide pilots.

The only solution is to go in hard and take all the godbothering sobs out.

From AP

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria – The leader of the Islamist sect blamed for days of violence in northern Nigeria has been shot and killed while in police custody, officials said Thursday.

The police commander of Borno state announced on state radio that Mohammed Yusuf, the leader of the sect some call the Nigerian Taliban, has "died in police custody."

He gave no further explanation, but the state governor's spokesman Usman Ciroma told The Associated Press: "I saw his body at police headquarters. I believe he was shot while he was trying to escape."

He'll not try and escape again.

nigeria has a very good understanding of the islamist problem and has been approaching it the right way.

the north half of the country is predominantly muslim and the lower half catholic, and there have been the usual "oh great i've got muslim neighbours" problems there for a long time. the nigerians have identified that a large part of the problem and the solution lies in the education system.

muslim education involves going to a madrass, rocking back and forth and memorising the koran. that's it, no science, languages, arts, just memorising the deluded rantings of a psychotic madman. after years of this stupidity students emerge with no useful skills and a severe case of focused indoctrination which is easily subverted and turned to radicalism.

so the nigerian government instead insists every child attend 6 hours of western style schooling a day, and any madrass lessons can take place after that. this ensures all children learn useful skills and a broader range of knowledge than just the koran.

obviously the islamists aren't too impressed and even the name of the movement "Boko Haram" means "western education is sinful". everything is haram to islamist assholes like this, even learning  it is refreshing to see the nigerians aren't hamstrung by political correctness like western governments and recognise radical islam for the threat to any decent society it is.

Isn't te thread wrongly named?
I'm pretty sure the Taliban killed at least 20 people before they got their just deserts.

Latest score at the end of the first quarter is.

Nigeria 234 : Taliban 13

Unlucky for some.

The godbotherers are in disarray as their previous tactics of spending long times with the physio or in the sin bin have been overtaken by the Nigeria side's decision to eliminate them from the game forever.

C'mon the Nigerians.

Great 2 see the Taliban being outdone by the Nigerians, but Nigeria isn't that great a place to live for anyone, is it?

We would whinge ourselves silly about police state etc if our authorities adopted the Nigerian methods. Can't have it both ways...

It took 2 atomic bombs to stop the Japanese.
Realistically it's the best way and so much quicker.

Anyone here old enough to remember the Iranian Embassy Siege in London in 1980? The Thatcher government obviously thought along the same lines as the current Nigerian one. The SAS must have had orders not to take any hostages alive but one managed to sneak out with the released hostages. It was then too late for the SAS to get rid of him.

Here's a Wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iranian_Embassy_Siege#Aftermath

The quote attributed to Denis Thatcher is quite interesting.

I was watching the World Snooker Championship on the BBC when they cut to the embassy and showed masked men sliding down ropes, smashing windows and throwing in stun grenades. Exciting stuff!

The following quote is from the Elite UK Forces web site regarding the ending of the siege:

With all hostages and terrorists accounted for, the police retook control of the area and the SAS withdrew from public view. Their once low profile, however, had been changed forever and the SAS was now a household word. The six-day siege had been busted in under 11 minutes. Not for the last time, however, controversy raged over the SAS's methods, particularly when dealing with unarmed terrorists. One thing, however, was clear : Britain had drawn a line in the sand with regards to international terrorism. Terrorists now knew that if they undertook an operation against British interests that the UK would respond with deadly efficiency.
