Hi Guys, I'm an old pommy London city trader that retired over here in this wonderful country, guess no matter how I try I can't stay away from the markets.

Despite being based in the UK, the desk I ran traded US equities and I have never traded the Aussie markets until a month ago, it's kind of different, especially on the short side but none the less a lot of fun and a new challenge. My wife insists I do this during the day and not stay up over night to trade the US, so here I am.

This is just a hobby for me to keep my hand in, I've got 100K play money to lose but so far, it's going well, but early days yet. Things are also a lot slower paced here which suits my old brain, I plan to do a mix of intra-day, swing and momentum trading, although have focused on the later initially. I like to focus on the low to mid caps as that is where I started in the markets a long time ago, as this is a hobby, they also provide the most fun.

I'm for sure with the worse broker around with ETrade and that is something I will have to look in to, seems brokers here are the worst in the world regarding costs. I also need to look at getting good trading software.

Anyway, I guess I am the opposite of a beginner but completely new to the ASX and thought I would say Hi, I'll likely list some of my trades in some of the stock forums so you can see where I enter and exit positions.

Look forward to your posts....i heard a rumor that Interactive Brokers will be offering margin for equities for Aussie clients once again in about 4 weeks, should fix your cost problem.:xyxthumbs

That is good news about IB, the margin is nice to save the T3 time but I wish we could short more stocks here in Australia, over half of my profits come from shorts and puts in the past. The $20 per trade on ETrade is not good, there were some easy scalp trades with an upside of $80 (I know but it all counts) that I avoided due to 50% of it being eaten in commission. This might date me but my last trading platform was DAS, TWS looks really different and my old tired mind will take time to adjust. However I think MultiCharts works with IB and I've used that briefly.

This is very new for me, a lot of fun feeling lost and confused to be honest. I'm also going to be making a lot of high risk plays to feel things out, even trading equities directly is strange as I much prefer options but deliberately getting out of my conform zone.

My username was a typo, but honestly, no issue, I can live with it.

Thanks guys, I signed up here a few weeks ago and didn't know if I should post or not, it's people like you CanOz why I did.
