If so, consider this a general comment. Any government, anywhere in the world that enacts such legislation cannot consider itself democratic. Freedom of information, freedom of opinion and freedom of discussion without fear of persecution are the very foundations of democracy. It's not hard to believe that self serving parliamentarians would enact such a legislation, but why on earth would anyone with more than two fifths of a brain sign it into law?
People unite against an identity card, but they let this sail through?

Pretty amazing proposal hey Doc.

A state that gave the first women in the world the right to vote. A Premier like Playford who built public housing for the homeless. Don Dunstan and his pink suits. The only state with a depository recycling program.

And now this??

The difference between the visionary, genuine politicians of years gone by versus the outright rubbish we have today.

Sure, they had their faults and didn't always get it right, but at least they actually did try. These days they don't even make it look like they're trying...

Real name - the one I was given at birth.

I like a lot of other people did not know anything about this until it was past, the Libs went along with it as well.
 
It sounds like they are trying to enforce the political media-blackout extensions to the blogosphere. Oh well, maybe those who don't live in SA will be extradited at taxpayer expense. There goes democracy! :rolleyes:

We all know what faceless people in the crowd do.
There is plenty of rubbish around, but no one is responsible for it.

Of course Big Brother can have an easy data, but should that stop somebody’s dole payment or single mother support pension or housing commission accommodation? Probably not.

Who knows? In QLD during the Joh years, do you reckon that government would have abused this or not?

Anyone want to bet such a scale of corruption - or worse - could not possibly happen again?

Fair point Atlas. It was quite scary back in those days. Special Branch would turn up to a peaceful ladies Uniting Church rally in Roma Street wearing crash helmets inside the car with batons and tear gas ready. ;)

Or make a political omlette out of a pre-end-of-apartheid Rugby Tour, the Gerrymander or Kristy Hinze father's brothels etc... Or no longer (Sir) Terry Lewis police commissioner Fitzgerald Enquiry etc...

I just wish the Crushers survived as an NRL team... such an apt name.

THE biggest corruption scandal since the Fitzgerald inquiry, involving claims of police involvement in major drug trafficking on the Gold Coast, is set to rock the Queensland Police Service.

The Crime and Misconduct Commission is tipped to call a public inquiry into allegations Gold Coast police have been involved with organised crime gangs, including outlaw bikies, importing drugs and dealing them through some of the Glitter Strip's nightclubs.

More than 20 officers are understood to have been hauled before secret CMC hearings to forcibly answer questions or give evidence against allegedly crooked colleagues. Phone taps, listening devices and covert surveillance are believed to have been used to gather evidence.

"This will be the biggest corruption scandal since Fitzgerald," a senior police source said.

"It will unfortunately drag down the reputation of the police service once again."

A multimillion-dollar cocaine bust on the Gold Coast last year is believed to have helped spark the CMC probe, which has been running for several months.
