My very own Robot Doggy

SOLD! i,ll have one!

well done m8 thats awesome

Thanks nunthewiser.

I wish I could sell, but it would require me to buy more Nokia N800 (or N810) Internet tablets and Bioloid (From Robotis) Robot kits.

Perhaps when I finally make enough money (to replace my income I mean), I could quit my current job and open up my own company. The Company will work with only the most advanced technology's that is out today. I can make that work.

Awesome stuff!

Do you study robotics or similar at uni? How long did it take to construct?

Hi gfresh

I have studied robotics in my own time, and have also learned to design Linux Operating systems as well (in my own time). I have never been to Uni. I have done a course for a Advance Diploma in electronics at TAFE (five or six years ago).

However I did cash in the advance diploma modules for a diploma in electronic engineering. I can finish the Advance diploma (Just four modules to go), but I'd prefer to study on making my own money without having to wok for anyone.

The robot itself took 7 hours to build (as a kit), and it took me a while to get my hands on the Nokia N800 Internet tablet. The open source software project information for the Nokia tablet, can be found at https://garage.maemo.org/projects/robot/ and I have more details written on the youtube page (linked) as well.

Nice robot electronicmaster.

If you can add attractive features to it like WallE, it might be a big hit.

Pretty cute, electronicmaster. How long will it take to teach him to

(a) sit and stay?

(b) fetch a stick?

lol, yea thats a good question Julia. I have not tried looking into voice commands yet. But the Internet tablet does have a built in microphone and also has a built in video cam as well.

In fact the Nokia N800 Internet tablet can run video conferencing using Skype as well.

It might take me a while to get voice commands working correctly, but I know it can work. I just need to spend the time to do it.

I will have to find free voice recognition software that runs on Linux first. The robot already uses software that converts text to voice.

mmmmm the possibilities ;-)

Very well done. Huge potential. Would it be possible to carry the "pocket pet puppy" around during the day (aka as a mobile phone) and slot it into the body at home. Updated Tamagotchi maybe (or if you as old as me an electronic pet rock). Great work :)

Yes LM, and thanks you :)

The mobile phones are now becoming low powered in hand computers (Just like in Star Trek)

The Internet tablet also has WiFi and Bluetooth built in. Bluetooth is used to connect and send data to the robot itself. Mobile phones do have the same device built in, so it is possible.

The bit of dialogue in the middle is priceless - woman are soooooo not impressed by cool technology. Apologies to women for the generalisation but the reaction was classic.

yeah that cracked me up too - btw I watched the whole thing.

nice work EM, got a few little bugs to iron out but it looks great. Where to from here? You looking at going commercial eventually with your own products?

lol Thanks

I might look into going commercial some time in the future. But I really need to do more research on making money without having to work first. I do have a very small capital that is slowly building up.

And when the bad times are starting to look really bad. I'll then start to invest. But the timing must be right.

At the moment it seems that the best place to be is trading the index as it has become some what predictable (Going down). Not sure if things are as easy as that. But it is a bear market after all.
