Music

that killed River Phoenix.......sorry I'm a TISM tragic

I'm an old rocker from the Deep Purple/Black Sabbath/Wishbone Ash etc kind of era (lots of long guitar Solos ;))

But the TISM I just watched for the first time was pretty entertaining ... catchy with a hint of dissonance and irreverence, lol ... Cool:cool:

Thanks M/A ... All music is good ... I even like "Schubert's Unfinished Symphony" (great Cello!!)

I grew up on TISM and even back in the 80s they were out there. Very provocative lyrics and you only have to listen to a few of their songs to realise why commercial radio was so reluctant to play them.

Lyrically, they may have run into some headwinds on Radio lol:jawdrop:

Musically, quite catchy ... bearing in mind I am a muso so kind of like anything left of field:hilarious:

80's eh?? You may be older than I thought:) I was gigging Sydney late 70's early-mid 80's (French's Tavern Darlinghurst/Stage Door Tavern inner City ... anyone remember?? The good ol days!)

I suddenly feel old!

Yes, probably much older than you thought. I was doing the Melb pub music scene from early to mid 80s. Corner Hotel in Richmond, Mentone Hotel (favorite venue for TISM), Festival Hall, the Palace and the Espy...the list of venues goes on. Now I'm feeling old :( Good times, man.

Not wanting to derail this thread, but over the past year I've really been getting into Mothers of Inventions...Zappa is seriously cool

Absolutely.

Steve Vai (I'm a guitar player) is one of my favorite players. When Frank relinquished his guitar playing duties to SV, you know he had to be something special cause Frank was no slouch!

ps. I'm pretty sure Froogs/Thread starter (@frugal.rock ) will not mind one bit for the odd bit off off topic banter;)

pps You a Muso MA?? or just a raging reveler LOL ??

Why did I think about weasels ripping my flesh, just today!
Boys next Door at the Crystal Ballroom.

But you and I have been through this, and this is not our fate
So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late.

muso...drummer for about 40 years

:D Nice.

I love Drums probably just as much if not more than Guitar ... I used to go and watch Bands in Sydney just for the Drummers, irrespective of whether I liked the Band or not

One that springs to mind ... Jimmy and the Boys ..... (Ignatius Jones was the Singer I think) No idea who their Drummer was late 70's early 80's but he played with a beautiful simplicity/accuracy. He could have made a tin can and a balloon sound perfect with his precision. Brilliant:cool: .... Memories lol:D

Hi guys, I moved these music related posts out of the Popping Festering Cankers thread into a new thread. Now there's something you don't say every day. :D

Music is one of those topics that can just go on and on and in many different directions, so better to have a dedicated thread where ASF's musos and music fans can discuss all things musical.

So I had to DuckDuckGo TISM. At first I was thinking "bloody acronyms", until DDG showed that TISM was the name of the band (sort of):

When I saw one of their songs was "Everyone Else Has Had More Sex Than Me", I was sure I could relate to their music :D:laugh::roflmao:

I'll have to listen and see if I like them.

I did grow up with Deep Purple/Black Sabbath/Wishbone Ash etc kind of era (lots of long guitar Solos) though...

How does a drummer change a
light bulb? :roflmao:

Careful there FR ... Drummers are lurking everywhere:nailbiting:

I've been a drummer long enough to have heard that more times than I've had hot dinners :p

Indeed.

In reality of course, Smart Drummers know it takes NO Drummers to change a light bulb ...

They simply wait for the guitar player to change it because guitarists must be seen at all times:cautious:

ps I am a guitarist so no hate mail please:D

Dave Grohl's 10 best drummer jokes

#10 works for me

Lol .......

5.) Reminds me of a gig about 30 years ago

Our Drummer was a bit partial to some unorthodox tobacco.

One gig (of many), he slipped out before the last set to sample his latest stash.

Every Song of the last set started fast and ended up near warp speed.

Post gig we were stirring him up about the wild tempos

His comment ... "Man, I thought it was sittin' nicely":woot::jimlad::wacky:

We learned how to play extra fast in that band:D
