I would like to obtain some side income on top of my Mon-Fri job, and was wondering if anyone had any good ideas for jobs I could do on the weekend or from home?

I've thought about walking and delivering junk mail, which is good exercise and seems like something I could do on the weekend, but haven't found an opportunity yet.

Also I currently do online surveys, but the earnings from that are miniscule. I've seen ads (probably scams) saying people can earn up to $8k a month by typing from home...has anyone ever had experience with that?
 
If you want something to keep fit, removalists are always looking for weekend workers. Alternatively if you are any good at sports you can usually get an amatuer team to throw $100 or so a game your way to play for them

I may try that with cricket but I can't really bowl and usually bat at no 11.
 

Depends what your skill set is Tyler. Perhaps contact an employment agency with your objective and they may be able to match your skills to a position.

The letterbox drop is good in so far as being able to do it in your time but by the time you take out possible fuel costs in getting the product to the drop area and the fact that they pay very low rates might make you think twice. The hourly rate would be better if you just dump the product and hope the employer doesn't do an audit

$8k a month for typing from home is probably a 'bit' far fetched especially if you type like most blokes. We'd probably have to work 80 hours a week and some to achieve that figure.

Your on a trading website and your asking how to make a few extra bucks????

You can pick up 2-600 in super quick time
Once you know what your doing--- with very limited risk
You'll need sound $15 k to kick off.
 
I'm not sure about what happens today, but as of about 4 years ago:

One of the major companies has the area supervisor check random addresses in each distributor's area. They do this for literally every delivery.

The other major company was trialling a system which involved GPS tracking of the people doing the actual deliveries.

Overall, I'd say that it's actually a good way to help kids earn some $ and give them a decent work ethic, but it's not a way for an adult to earn serious $ unless you're at least an area supervisor rather than simply a distributor (known as "walkers" in the industry).

Delivering the catalogues etc isn't too bad, it's folding them that is the real pain especially if it's a big delivery with 5+ items per address.
 

Wow, this sounds really sad.

Asking jaded randoms on a cynical forum how you can earn a few bucks on the weekend. My personal take on this would be to first of all work out what the hell you want to do in life. From your post I'm gathering that you would like to get outdoors some more and do some exercise. There's got to be better ways to earn money than delivering things people don't want. Consider starting a dog walking business or do some gardening/handyman type things maybe. What I'm saying is that once you work out what you want to be doing then look for opportunities in your local neighborhood or talk to friends and try to match what you would like to be doing with something that could turn over some income for you. When you work on your hobby - it's not really like working.

Hey, If I was you, I'd be looking at getting a shipload of these into the country and flogging them off for xmas on ebay - mine arrived today, and the sharemarket is dead to me now that my shark is flying.

Perhaps better to make your full time job what you really enjoy, then have weekends off? Working 7 days is bad for your health.

May I ask what your FT job is?

Yes depends on your skills and where you live, I think you can get better than letting drops.

- Dog walker (LifeChoices beat me to it) - may not pay more but prob more fun. You can chat with all the nice people in the doggy park too.
- Party organiser/helper - like hiring out jumping castle or doing a BBQ. Needs a bit of capital but a bit more engaging.
- Slightly more skilled jobs like book keeping, tax returns, data entry or market researcher (e.g. do research on the street, tally shelf space in a supermarket etc - you will learn a bit about commerce).
- Aim slightly higher again - e.g. plant operator. A couple of friends at Uni got jobs maning a power station at night where they spent most of the time sleeping or playing mine sweeper.
- Scavanger / picker - drive around suburbs early in the morning when they have large items for council collection. I probably threw away a few $hundred worth of scrap steel last week that someone promptly taken.
- Small retailer on eBay.

If you are a young person, you should aim higher that build your skills that are useful for the future. Delivering catelogue seems to build only your calf muscles.

I don't think they pay $100 for people to cut the oranges

Depending on your educational qualifications, one-on-one home tutoring of kids who are struggling with maths and literacy is an area of high demand, especially in the cities.

This has the benefit of bringing you into contact with families who are motivated to do the best for their kids, so is usually a positive and constructive environment.

Or, if you're desperate, and gorgeous, maybe advertise your availability as an, um, escort.

Contact the banks and look for work on their foreclosures, doing board up's trash outs etc.
Will only get busier each year.

Strange
That you see trading as a Risk to you hard earned but investing differently.
There are many risks to income even for paye wage earners
One you've pointed out---- longer hrs no pay.
Another on leaflet drops low return for effort
 
Tyler it sucks that you don't get paid any extra for working longer hours at your day job. Good on you for not wanting to work those extra hours, which in effect would do nothing more than dilute your salary or hourly rate, whatever the case may be.

Maybe consider being a Driving instructor on the weekends? It's a sit-down job and you get to connect with a variety of young people in your community. A phone call to a driving school should let you know what is required; as far as I'm aware all you need to be is a fully licenced driver.

If you're brave enough you might consider being a Taxi Driver on weekends....

Hmmmm blogging, database entry...stuff like that that's legit that you can do online?

Check out sites like Elance and Freelancer to get a good idea of what's out there. I'd say the only really big downfalls are the huge amount of competition from India and places, where they're willing (and able) to work for much, much cheaper, but being a native English speaker might be a bit of an edge, and the fact that both are US-based so most projects are American and pay in US Dollars.
