Monitor problem

Gents, thanks with above points. I think now its a driver problem.

Tek the model is:

Satellite A100 PSAA9A-118038

I have tried to adjust the res rate as described but it only changes the Primary Monitor, and does not allow me to change the new LCD.

I've also tried to 'add' the correct resolution but it won't let me.

Yep Kennas, find the latest drivers... First look on the saltelite web site.
If they don't have one You may like to do a system restore. Start>All Programs> Accessories>System Tools>System Restore.
This will allow you to roll back your whole system if things go pear shaped.

Then try the latest Nvidia mobile driver from www.nvidia.com

all the best with it.

The 7300 chipset can definately handle the res you want.
 
There's a few to choose from that could be correct. These two seem the most relevant:

Satellite A100 Nvidia Display Driver (GeForce Go 7300)

Satellite A100 (PSAA9A-XXXXXX)Win XP MCE nVIDIA Display Driver

I assume the 7300 one.

Maybe it's just not compatible? Shame, it's a great looking monitor.
 
From page 144 of the manual. Might be wrth looking at the HW setup it refers to.

External monitor
An external analog monitor can be connected to the external monitor port on the computer, Port Replicator. The computer supports VGA and Super VGA video modes.
To connect a monitor, follow the steps below.
CAUTION: If an external monitor is connected to the computer, do
not connect the Port Replicator. First disconnect the external monitor
from the computer then connect the Port Replicator and use its
external monitor port.
Note: The Resume feature can be used with an external monitor.
Simply enable Resume and the computer will maintain the data as it
is displayed on the external monitor.
1. Connect the monitor to the external monitor port.
2. Turn the monitor’s power on.
When you turn on the power, the computer automatically recognizes the monitor
and determines whether it is color or monochrome.
You can use the HW Setup to select between Auto-Selected and Simultaneous
displays. Refer to Chapter 7, HW Setup and Passwords.
If you have selected Simultaneous under the Display options of the HW Setup,
both the external monitor and the internal LCD will be active when you turn on
the computer. If Auto-Selected is selected, only the external monitor will be
active.
To change the display settings, press Fn + F5. If you disconnect the monitor
before you turn the computer off, be sure to press Fn + F5 to switch to the internal display.
Refer to Chapter 5, The Keyboard, for details on using hot keys to
change the display setting.
Note: If you set Simultaneous for the computer’s display, you
must set the computer’s display resolution to the same as that of the
external monitor or other device, such as a projector.
 
Kennas, either driver should work... The MCE XP driver is just for Windows Media Centre Edition.
Media Centre Edition of XP is just XP with a few extra applications. The MCE driver may give you more options for high definition resolutions.

Kennas from my experience I've found this problem your experiencing is related to the vga external connector & cable your running to the lcd monitor.

As your notebook doesn't have external dvi port for second monitor, there seems little choice but to use the vga port.

I have a multiple dual head cards with DVI (digital) and vga (analog 15pin DSUB) connectors, of which all use same model lcd's I run but have to run different res support on the alalogs vs digitals.

I have improved the analog signal [slightly] by using a better quality analog cable (not neccessarly much more in $$$) which is most inferior picture esp on text.

This is confirmed by spreading a text screen across both digital and analog output on cards (half on each) , and shadownig /blurring is clearly shown on alalog connection..

Also note I don't recall the problem on old analog crt screens which are now dead n burried, hence conclude problem is analog card output and analog port lcd input related...

Sorry no real solution,but confirmation of my findings only.

Thanks for your time. Bast@rd of a thing is, it works bloody great on Rach's notebook....

Trying the other driver now....
 
Have you hit "Fn+F5" to force the laptop to send all signal to just the external monitor?

Yep, but it doesn't actually do anything. The new monitor works fine and a signal is going through to it. The problem is definately at the driver level, or there is another button for me to push in the control panel?

I've tried the add functiion as mentioned above but haven't changed anything in the 'Advanced Timing' area seen below.

What if I play around with those??

You should be able to configure an additional screen properly, as this is exactly the same process as using your laptop to project your screen using a projector - you have a display on your screen and through another monitor which is the projector.

Maybe you could do a google on troubleshooting this process as this would be more common that what you are currently trying to do.
 
I had my laptop attached to a 17 inch monitor back home and decided not to bring it to Peru and buy a larger one here, which I did yesterday. The problem is the laptop won't allow me to change the resolution to match the new monitor. Hopefully this latest download of a new driver will do the trick!! Please!!!!!!
 

Kennas, humour me here... On the screenshot you posted with the quote above, it seems you still had monitor 1 highlighted. Go back to Display properties and physically click on monitor 2 . It should then have a blue border around it...Then try to add a new resolution..

Let me know how you get on..


Those custom settings won't help you much as they are just preselected res and timings for different LCD plasma and CRT rear projection TV units..It won't hurt to play with them as they simply come up as another choice on that selection page.

What was the outcome of this pre-open issue today? Did the ASF members band together and present a working solution to one of their own? I see by the looks of the timing of some of the later posts that we missed having it sorted by the opening bell.

Have you tried installing the correct monitor driver?

Probably won't work but it is worth a shot.

What model monitor is it?
