At least 600 women who graduated from Yale University between 1966 and 2018 have signed a letter in support of Deborah Ramirez, the second woman to come forward with allegations of sexual misconduct against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

“We are coming forward as women of Yale because we have a shared experience of the environment that shaped not only Judge Kavanaugh’s life and career, but our own,” the open letter states.

The letter does not corroborate Ramirez’s allegations; however, the signees write that they stand with Ramirez out of that “shared experience” — and with “all women who have faced sexual assault, not only at Yale, but across the country.”

Sorry Bas, I believe you have good intentions and that Brett Kav is likely guilty but the constant Men bashing that goes on in our Society does wear on me.

Lucky for you I don't do Maccas. Men do tend to feel intimidated around me; I think it's because of the way women fawn over me for my masculinity, cultivated intelligence, romantic words and handsomeness ... it's hard to be perfect in everyway...

Really ? Maybe you can look at the bigger picture rather than some very selective comments.

The"MeToo" movement kicked off when one women finally had the courage to denounce Harvey Weinstein for his calculated sexual aggression, rape and intimidation of actresses/women and efforts to ensure no one spoke up. After the first women spoke up and was finally believed thousands of others also talked of the similar behaviours they had endured.

In the Harvey Weinstein case there are now scores and scores of people who came forward. Criminal charges have now been laid.

Women also spoke up about the behaviour of other celebrities/public figures. And guess what ? They too have been disgraced over multiple sexual abuse claims. There is an excellent Time article which documents 141 public figures who have been exposed.

So what is worse?

1) The long time behaviour of men abusing staff and colleagues and gettig away with it ?
2) The denouncement of this behaviour?
3) The refusal to accept that this behaviour actually happened, that it is all over blown, that women have lied, that this is all a nazi feminist scheme to disempower men and for Gods sake get over it !

@basilio these cases aren't indicative of our everyday Society. As a Male I've heard this Men are rapists, me are scum etc constantly since the 80s. I still hear it all the time. Women generally do dominate in our Society, have so for a long time. I've seen false allegations and the harm it causes. Yes, I believe Brett Kav and others are guilty but I think we need equality not this dominance that the likes of Lisa Wilkinson and Clementine Ford go on with.

Kavo is rich, white and have powerful friends. So it'll just either be a seat on the Supreme Court of Justice or back to some consultancy gig.

People are being sent to prison for not having a literal couple hundred dollars. This douche whose talent was twisting the law to permit torture, taking away the rights of his fellow citizens... and now being accused by three women, so far, of either rape, sexual assault or lining up with his fellow azzholes to rape drugged out girls...

is somehow being defended as some sort of victim.

It wouldn't surprise me if his supporters are digging for some victim of his with flimsy evidence or outright lies... then tar all other victims with it.

So really "who" is telling you all this? Are you suggesting this is a dominant conversation in the media ? Or perhaps that some groups are trying to put this idea about to create sympathy for the idea that men are poor misbeggoten creatures lassoed by conniving women.. (thanks Tisme..)

There are many conversations in society. There are the ones guys have when they BS about the women they have xcrewed, or would like to, or who they think would have a go.

There are the conversations women have about the guys they would like to lay, the guys who grope them, those who have abused them, those who have raped them. In industry circles there are conversations about bosses who expect staff to do anything that's asked and more of course if they really want to keep their job.

There are conversations in institutions between bosses who hear about staff who "overstep the boundaries" with clients. Priests who have to be counselled and moved on. Managers who are let go but noone evers says why they were let go so they are reemployed in the industry to prey again.

Another overlying conversation in the past has been one of denial. There is no way a priest/teacher/Scout leader could ever have done that! How dare you you make such a disgusting allegation child ! In the entertainment industry the suggestion that a producer has put the hard word on an young actress is seen as the death knell of a career. You don't rock the boat kid and no one will believe you anyway (because that guy has power and he will make sure you are never believed and never work again..)

What are the conversations today ? Finally around the world it has become recognised that religious institutions as well as secular ones have covered tens of thousands of abuses by their staff. These were not imaginary, vexatitious or trivial. They destroyed the lives of the victims and their families. In many cases the victims were twisted into abusers themselves.

The Me Too movement was a spontaneos eruption of people willing to speak up about the abuse they suffered in recognition of those who started the conversation. It has created the conditions where the conversation of denial is no longer credible no matter how much of a big shot the accused is.

The biggest conversation of denial today is amongst those on the right who are resolutely defending the indefensible. Start with Donald Trump. Go to Brett Kavanaugh.

We move in different circles Bas. The biggest trouble I have, and that I generally notice, is from self centered, dominant or trouble making females. Yes, some Men are bad, but I encounter more trouble from those Women.
