As a non-Victorian who's used Melbourne Airport many times as a visitor, I'm just not seeing the value in this.

The state's up to its neck in debt meanwhile the existing bus service is adequate for the task and, to the point, takes passengers directly to..... a train station.

What's the actual problem that warrants spending a fortune to fix? And could that money not be better spent on reducing debt or funding something else? :2twocents

When you put it in context with the electrical supply issue, it does make one wonder how they priorities things, not much point having a first world rail system and a third world electrical system to power it.

Melbourne Airport – owned by private investors including Dexus, IFM Investors and the Future Fund – appears unmoved.

We remain consistent in our view that an underground station at the airport is the right solution for the traveller, the airport and the city,” an airport spokesman said.

.... funded by the taxpayer. of course you would, rent seekers.
