Only natural after an electoral defeat, especially after an election that was there for the taking and somehow lost. Made John Hewson look like a legend.

So, the knives are out. Good thing, too. 'Bout time these time-server throwbacks from the Howard glory days were turfed out and the party reinvigorated. (Shame its just different time-server throwbacks from the Howard glory days doing the challenging ).

LIBERAL frontbencher Andrew Robb has confirmed he is sounding out colleagues for a possible tilt at deputy Liberal leader Julie Bishop's job tomorrow.

"Somehow lost"? No somehow about it. The outcome was decided by the two ex-Nationals who relished the opportunity to get back at the Coalition for whatever their past grievances were, whilst in the process ensuring they filled their own grab bags.

Tony Windsor even came out and said that he went for Labor because he thought they would have more of an interest in keeping the independents in power, and if the country were to go to another election, then the Coalition would win.

Fantastically objective and rational decision-making.

Then Mr Oakeshott will be losing all credibility as a so called independent if he accepts a Cabinet position. I can't believe he'd even consider this.

But then, looking at how he has delighted in all the media attention, I guess it's not too surprising.

Don't you think there will be a lot of knives being flourished amongst Labor?
Not to even mention the major stabbing of Kevin Rudd!
The Coalition has been a model of decorum and stability by comparison.

C'mon Julia, given your chastising namrog elsewhere re showing some objectivity I imagine your failure to mention the Libs "major stabbing" of Turnbull 9 months ago is just an oversight, right?

Turnball lost his job over policy as I understand it. Doesn't sit well if the leader is willing to cross the floor. Very different circumstances to Rudd's undignified and sudden knifing.

And more than half of Australia don't agree with your statement that more taxes are for the greater good.

It has become obvious that labor are high maintenance and need lots of spending money. Is it possible that climate change is nothing more than an excuse to increase revenue?

Thanks, Sails, for providing the appropriate response to Timmy's question to me.

Timmy, I have no idea why you seem determined to paint me as partisan in this discussion. If you take the trouble to read through all my posts on the various political threads (helluva task!) you will see that I've been just as critical of the Coalition as I have of Labor.

Good to see, though, that you have actually nailed your own political colours to the wall.

I think you are being a bit paranoid here Julia. You provided information (unsourced) that is incorrect, and it was corrected. Thats it. You called for objectivity, as did I.
 
Abbott and Hockey did the classic "Et tu Brute" but mainly on policy grounds and not to win an election me thinks?

In no way was Turnbull about to cross the floor. What Turnbull was doing was to come to an agreement with Rudd on a compromise enviromental plan. Remember he was only defeated by ONE vote for leadership of the party. The problem with Turnbull is that he is an honest politition and that means that he is socially unacceptable with many others in the house. His Lib detractors are probably jealous of his private success.
