Hi all,

Does anyone know where i can get the latest balance sheets for listed companies? How often are they updated? directshares has only balance sheets up to june 2008.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Sam,

Don't know about sourcing financial reports but it's not surprising they only have balance sheets up to June 2008 - most listed companies are only required to produce yearly reports (some have to or choose to also produce interim reports).

As a result, the latest available report (balance sheet) is the June 2008 one. The next set of reports produced will be for 1 July 2008 through 30 June 2009. It also takes a substantial amount of time for the company to compile it's data and to produce the reports - from memory they have about 3 months to do so. This seems to be one of the problems with fundamental analysis - the timeliness of financial data - a lot can change in 3 months.

There should be some info on the ASX site regarding the reporting requirements for listed companies; a search there might give you a better understanding of what you can get, where you can get it and when.

Cheers,

AMSH

Sam, most companies do their annual reports to coincide with the tax year which is 1/7/20XX to 30/6/20XX. Like the previous post said it is a big task.

You will find that companies put out quarterly and 6 monthly forecasts and reports but they are not as detailed as the annual ones. They will be in the form of market announcements and can be found on the ASX website. You probably won't find updated balance sheets in these, but more cash flow and profit and loss information.

Major changes to assets and liabilities could be the subject of other market announcements, particularly if they would be significant in moving the market price of the company's shares.

Banks close off their annual accounts at the end of September however.
