The big news in Canada is the sweeping victory of Justin Trudeau's Liberal Partyand what that could mean for Oz.

First off the ranks. The Harper Governments Climate Change policy will be dropped and a policy that recognises the damage CC will bring and attempts to minimise it will be adopted.

That will change the conversation in the Paris talks and has to to have an impact on the current governments Climate Change policy settings.

So is their Liberal Party the same as our Labor Party ?

If so, the idea of one less Conservative Tea Party party in the world is good news imo.

Harper was mates with Abbott so I think we know where Harper stood politically.

Yep to all. Actually Harper was an amazing political operator. Made Nixon look like an angel.

Check out the story about how he managed to gain and hold power in his 9 years. Chilling stuff. It will be interesting to if there are any post election investigations.
Stephen Harper: master manipulator

Despite several scandals worthy of Watergate over the past decade, Stephen Harper could win a fourth Canadian election next week. Can the master manipulator work his dark magic? By Nick Davies

,......In the 11 years since he became leader of the country’s Conservatives, the party has been fined for breaking electoral rules, and various members of Team Harper have been caught misleading parliament, gagging civil servants, subverting parliamentary committees, gagging scientists, harassing the supreme court, gagging diplomats, lying to the public, concealing evidence of potential crime, spying on opponents, bullying and smearing. Harper personally has earned himself the rare rebuke of being found to be in contempt of his parliament.

Stephen Harper was a Tony Abbott - a wrecker. extremely socially Conservative and anti action against global warming - he best mate world wide was Tony Abbott. People aren't going to accept that stuff anymore.

But the Libs have managed to get rid of Abbott and now have Turnbull. Much more like John Keys, the Conservative NZ Prime Minister who is the most popular elected leader in the world (besides Kim Il Sung :D)

Implications for Oz? IMHO, within a few years, Oz tax rates wont look so high in comparison to Canada. After legalization, weed will be handier to buy, but more expensive, when you head for the snow in Whistler. Flow of capital into Canada will slow down as tax rates rise, so Oz should benefit, particularly in the resource sector.

Canada's Liberal Party is not the same as Labor in Oz. Canada has the New Democratic Party (NDP) with all the unionists and union funding, and pretend platforms saying they care about the disadvantaged and the environment. All they care about is union jobs, which are disappearing in Canada as fast as they are here in Oz. They have not held power at the federal level, but have had success with provincial elections in some provinces. They had a taste of improvement in the last federal election, due to their leader, Jack Layton, who was loved in Quebec. The Quebecois were widely expected to throw out the Libs under Michael Ignatieff, along with their home-grown Quebec party, the Bloc Quebecois. The vote moved so fast that one NDP candidate became famous for taking an out-of-country holiday in the middle of the six-week campaign, and getting elected anyway!

The Canuck Libs are more like conservatives with a bent on funding special interest groups and dreaming up new social programs. Many/most of them understand business and why competition, free enterprise and capitalism work. They're not shy of raising taxes to fund social programs or their pet interest groups. But to put it all in perspective, the US Democratic party would be considered right-wing in most western countries, and the Republicans extreme right. Both US parties are to the right of Canada's Conservative party.

For Canada, it's fair to expect a repeat of the previous Trudeau years in Canada - during the reign of Justin Trudeau's father, Pierre. Higher taxes, increased and botched regulation, government subsidies for the weirdest of things, plenty of national debt, and less foreign investment coming in.

There will be lots of photo ops, prancing around the world stage, and not much recognizable action (like Abbott, haha). Congrats to Justin Trudeau and the Libs for their win. Not a whole lot will change and business will manage through it. Seems like the first name Justin is a good choice over there.

I thought it was fun to see the frank banter between PM's at the NATO summit laughing at the free wheeling antics of The Don of God. Was also impressed with the way Justin Trudeau responded to press questions. Diplomatic but cheery.

Much ado about nothing...
True but i found the arrogance of dicks like Trudeau or Macron incredible
Macron in particular is leading a basket case country, a culture in whole collapse and he is hated and despised by his own people..and here they gloat.
Get a mirror mate...
US should just get out of NATO
The left will be happy and so will the American taxpayers

The US should just get out of everywhere.

And NATO should send the US a bill for every casualty suffered in the Woalition of the Killing.

Yes, the US has been carrying Europe for decades defence wise, they probably need a shake up to do more for themselves.

As for Macron, there have been big protests in France about changes to the pension system, obviously these would make the pension less generous otherwise people wouldn't be protesting no ? So if Macron is trying to lessen the burden on taxpayers and reduce social welfare spending, that would be a good thing wouldn't it ?

Yes it needs to be changed but it is a one way: tax more give less for workers and increase welfare and refugees and migrants help
He is a socialist.....

And when you say tax the rich
You end up reaching a point where everyone is rich as opposed to a migrant of the boat from Africa
French voters just get what they deserved anyway, i will not cry for them in general, but many suffer and did not help elect him, yet pay the price
The drama of democracy, what an horrendous system when the patriotic side goes in smoke and it becomes a me me game

So you are ok with a leader if a crime is committed in office. They just have to be a virtue signaling dickwad.

Trudeau, WTF....

Talk about a dictator

Peaceful protests - we'll seize your bank accounts and let you starve/freeze to death. Your pets, they'll be gone too.

Seems like one side can protest but not the other side....

WTF....

Trudeau's justice minister says that being “pro-Trump” is a factor that will decide if your bank account is seized under their Emergency Orders

Emergency Act.jpg

You know what happens when a State of Emergency is declared?

It's a free for all, for the intelligence agencies. It becomes a 24/7 Buffet...

Justin Trudeau, who backed farmer protests in India, trolled for invoking emergency powers to quell trucker demonstrations in Canada

The Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who had supported the farmers' agitations in India against the Central farm laws in 2020, has been trolled by various groups across the world, including in India and the US, for invoking federal emergency powers to crack down on truckers protesting against Canada's COVID-19 restrictions.
From "Taste of own medicine" to "Karma returns with interest" — social media users have been mocking Justin Trudeau in different ways since he invoked the Emergencies Act to deal with the ongoing trucker protests in the country.
