I'm presuming a few of you might have watched KRudd on the ABC's special Q & A program from the old Parliament House last night? I wonder what you all thought of his performance?
Personally, I felt he gave a very insipid and un-inspiring performance in front of a studio audience of 16-25 year olds. I don't think one of the questioners actually praised Mr Rudd or his government during the whole hour.
Essentially, most of the young audience seemed concerned that Mr Rudd had made many promises at the last election that had not yet been acted upon in reality, but had instead been hand-balled to numerous committees for further discussion.
Mr Rudd appeared very uncomfortable for much of the time during the questioning. His dis-comfort at not receiving any praise at all seemed quite palpable. He seemed to be pouting a LOT. I found myself looking away or closing my eyes when he was constantly fumbling for answers - it was that embarrassing. Maybe he was missing his bevy of female members strategically placed behind him that reward him with endless "Yes Prime Minister" noddies during normal Parliamentary broadcasts?
As expected, he resorted to his usual obfuscating media technique when trying to "answer" questions - eg: Waving and pointing his finger with "There are 3 points to this, firstly...secondly..." etc etc etc. Most of the time he forgot the third or fourth point he "firstly" raised (must be getting Alzheimers?)!
I felt he was very condescending towards his young audience and spoke to them as though he was The Headmaster at a school auditorium.
He seemed intent on scoring smart-mouthed "one-ups" on the host Tony Jones in an attempt to dodge his responsibility in answering his young critics. He failed miserably. Only Tony got big cheers.
Unsurprisingly, the audience (especially the older ones) looked totally un-impressed by the end of the program (although they did give him a regulation clap at the end of the show - no doubt encouraged or instructed by ABC "clappers" strategically placed.) .
So, how did I rate his performance last night??

That 1 point is for having the temerity to turn up at all.
I'd be surprised if 18-25 year olds didn't remember this pathetic performance when it comes to polls in coming months (and the election itself).
