Our good friend and cuckoo, the Koel Bird is back in the canopy surrounding the Ross Island Hotel. His sound can be heard over the noise of the V8's. The supercars whizz below the verandah and it is difficult to get the Bentley parked.

Earlier than normal this year, he signals rain, usually.

Let's hope he finds a mate soon, and stops his bloody koohooooowhiiiih at dawn which goes through to dusk.

I find them about as reliable as BOM :p

The first Koel Bird of 2023 has arrived at the hotel from PNG.

Each year as skittish September markets continue further south, he stays, his harshish preserval piping call going from just before dawn to dusk, until he finds a mate.

Time to lock the cash drawer and dust off the few sunk scrip collecting dust for sale to a bigger fool. .

Just heard old mate again today for the first time this season
Old mate was heard today, after a rain storm!

I did hear one around 80 clicks north of where I am on the 20th October, but I have no idea when it arrived there.

Surprised it's so late this year.
Dry and hot.
A local pond/ dam thing has dried up. It's been wet for around 5 years or so.
