Deledio's resume would indicate that he is a star AFL player who unfortunately plays for Richmond.

Unfortunately games are not played and won "on paper". He had a very good first year as a rookie - hence the awards in 2005. He did very little and was disappointing in 2006 and 2007. He found some form and won the best and fairest (in a poor team in 2008).

Perhaps the best indicator is that he has been in and out of the team for 2009. I would call a star player someone that would be an automatic starter at any other club. Deledio would struggle to do that. He struggles to keep his place in his own side. Great potential but has been "dogged" by the No 1 Draft pick curse.

Didn't Slater win the "Rugby League Player of the Year" last year. If you are going to compare codes based on a ridiculous "one on one" competition, then at least get the best of the best.

I take your point that he is not an "average player" but he ain't no AFL heavyweight.

Apparently he will be being paid around $1m a year which will put him in the top 5 earners in the Afl (according to the courier mail) with players such as brown etc. All i can say is that i hope hes worth every cent.
