Watched an interesting movie last, a bit flawed but entertaining. Showed the dangers of influence and expectations, and how far we come but still to have to go. Reminded me of a certain movie mogul & a Prince.

You didn't specifically condemn the threats against Adern, you just said that they should be put up with and accepted as part of politics.

" If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the damned kitchen." I believe you said.

I don't agree, so shove that.

I'll give him about six months before someone decides to shoot him.

Said no one in particular.

But context is everything.

The left at one stage amplified that it was ok to harass political opponents on the street and camp at their houses shouting threats.

At no time is it OK to directly message threats or commit physical violence against a politician or their family.

Screeching on the internet about someone being sht is fine.
 
I'm beginning to think this resignation could not have been a shock to anyone in NZ, I've watched a few snippets of TV from NZ this weekend and there were clearly rumors swirling around she would be gone for months now. It's just that the international MSM did not want to admit she was facing any issues. When the next polls come out in a month or two, we'll find out whether or not the issue was her or labor. Considering the new PM was the covid czar I can't imagine he's any more popular than she was/was not.

No matter what your view, she clearly made a good personal decision to pull the pin. I think you're always better off resigning than you are getting fired/voted out. It might be gutless or weak in a number of occasions but at least you can claim you left on your own terms (even if it's not quite true)

From this November interview at the 9:30 mark Jacinda is asked if she will resign or will still be the leader into the next election and she clearly states she has no plans to change her role as leader.

"If I had to bet my house on it, I would pick Jacinda Ardern to announce that she is stepping down before Christmas. She won’t lead the Labour Party into the next election. She can’t. The announcement must surely be coming. "

I think its an outrage that you smear and put Rumps good name with mine, Rump is clearly a well balanced, intelligent and thoughtful contributor.

Haven't seen you debunk anything but you really bite every time ???

As for Trump he has certainly done things far worse than what's on the public record (as if that's not bad enough) but he has served the US right wing very nicely as their useful idiot.
 
I quite enjoyed Jacinda Ardern's time as Prime Minister of New Zealand.

Having two parents with dyslexia and unable to spell Jacinta must have been difficult for her growing up.

Nonetheless the white population of NZ are a constipated lot and the Maori are well ... Maori, so she would have shaken both races up and good on her.

I know little of the politics of the Shaky Isles but have visited there on a number of occasions with two of the Mrs Gumnuts ( each separately ), and enjoyed my stay immensely particularly in the South Island.

Women, in moderation and occasionally, are good to lead the body politic, even in New Zealand.

He did many good things socially which have stood the test of time.

He also sent us down the path to being the king of coal and absolutely reliant on it for exports. That really hasn't stood the test of time at all well. Giving up on manufacturing as a matter of policy and chasing a coal boom was arguably one of the worst decisions ever made by any government - even Labor tacitly acknowledges that these days.

As with most, he had good points and bad.

Biggest problem with politics is the tribal nature of it. Few seem willing to acknowledge that whoever they voted for does have flaws and who ever they didn't vote for does have good ideas on occasion. None of them are perfect, not even close, but most of them do have the odd going point here and there.
