Here's something you wont see every day and may be of interest to some especially if you fly a lot for business or pleasure.

This link is to the ATSB Interim report on the depressurisation of QF 747 City of Newcastle in July last year near Manila.

The report's a bit long and dry but just scroll to the pics to see the inside damage to the A/C and how close this incident came to being a total tragedy.

A strong airframe and the crew's skill averted the unthinkable.

In a country where we treat footballers and cricketers as heroes, their achievements are mundane when compared to the training, skill and coolness with which aircraft crews so often avert catastrophe in the air.

There are thousands of people who owe their lives to the training and dedication of these people. They are the true professionals.

Couldn't agree more, although I suppose I'm a little biased....
The next time the cabin crew ask you to stow your baggage, put your seat up, sit down, don't get up to pee and if seat belt sign illuminates in clear air it's all for a damn good reason. If things turn to cr*p aft of the flight deck, the best asset you've got is a 20+ year veteran burley Aussie FA being very definite about what you should be doing...listen to their every word.
You've got more chance of dying from a bee sting than being involved in a fatal aircraft upset but I always keep my seat belt fastened..
