Can an Individual Investor still trade options with IB given they no longer allow margin for Aus clients? Cant seem to find the answer on their website

Yes, I trade options on an individual account.

To date I have just sold covered calls and covered puts. By covered put I mean I have sufficient funds in my account to buy the underlying if assigned. I have also bought a put to close out a call I had written.

I haven't tried anything else. There may be (I don't know) limitations on taking or writing options that could cause you to go below the minimum balance ($500?) that you must maintain, if assigned.

Has anyone had trouble logging into either web trader or account management under MacOs.

For the last 3 days I simply cannot get in. I am on Mac OS 10.13.4, which is the latest, and Safari 11.1, which is also the latest. If I directly select www.interactivebrokers.com.au I just get a blank page. If I go to www.interactivebrokers.com, I am able to select account management or web trader, but that then directs me to the .au site and again it hangs doing nothing. I have progressed a few times beyond the login, but have never actual got to the web trader or account management page. The same happens if I use the Chrome browser on my Mac.

I can get to TWS on IOS no problem, but if I try to get to account management from there, I have the same issues.

Hello,

I enter account management via TWS on a mac, no issues on my end.

Hello,

Yes, I was able to that too after trying many alternatives, but I noticed unlike logging in from www.interactivebrokers.com which will shoot you off to www.interactivebrokers.com.au and then hang, when I select from TWS (which I downloaded to my Mac) it gets me all the way in to account management completely within the LLC webpages (not ever going to the .au pages).

I have only done this for my company account which has not yet being converted to IB Australia. I must see if I can try it with my individual account which has been converted.

I've checked it out, I can log in via interactivebrokers.com.au,

Have you got java enabled in safari settings ?

Yep, me too now. I have just logged in from Safari to account management for my individual account, which has been converted to IB Australia. No problems and quick. I made no changes to my java settings

When I got through yesterday via TWS on my Mac I lodged a ticket with IB on the problem. Whether that caused the fix or not I do not know. But I have been using IB from the browser daily of a long time and it was just the last few days that had issues.

Thanks for your responses on this.

I'm new to IB and tested a trade so i can get familiar with the system.
I set a LIMIT BUY for 10 SKX @ 30USD

1) Firstly, I never got an email to notify me the order executed. I checked global configuration and it appears it should have notified me via email. On another note, disabling the annoying beeping sounds in alerts does not work, and i still get bleeped everytime TWS opens up.

2) I have a cash account, yet when I went to submit the order, it had info about:
Equity with Loan
Initial Margin
Maintenance margin.

I don't want margin, i just want pay with cash which I had more than enough in my account. I did some digging and according to this link https://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/index.php?f=3983 "
"It's important to note that the calculation of a margin requirement does not imply that the account is borrowing funds, employing leverage or incurring interest charges. IB will only generate a margin loan in the event that the account does not have sufficient settled funds to support the purchase of additional securities or holding of existing securities. "

3) After checking my account online, I noticed 2 messages which, again I never received in my email, telling me there was 2 liquidation events! Despite having more than enough cash.

I don't understand how a simple cash account can be this complicated. Does every trade with IB have to include their arbitrary margin requirements? How can you disable that and only trade with your own cash and not be subject to random liquidation events.

Just wanted to bump to get an answer regarding my prior post about maintenance margins. Why does IB force you to take on margins despite having enough cash for trades??

Hello,

Not to sure about this one, I haven't really had much experience with currency conversions but I do have a couple of thoughts, were you holding USD or AUD at the time of the trade ? If you were only holding AUD you may have gone into negative USD ( borrowed USD ) hence the liquidation. My take is if buying US stocks buy USD first to build up a positive USD cash position then buy the stock.

Anyone having problems phoning them lately - long waits and often no message to select options

Using the 02 number and putting my a/c number in

Also logging in to account management with new security methods - flaky

Anyone had a look at obtain yearly trading (July 2017 to June 2018) statement for tax from Interactivebrokers.

Data only starts from Oct 2017 to current date.

What about July onward ??

Haven't had a look
That would be when they transferred to Australia.
Send them a query.
Let me know what you find out---please.

Had a chat with Interactive support.

On the top right hand corner just left of your name, click the icon and tick your old and new account number.
Must have been the recent transfer of accounts from US to Oz.

Hope this is of some help for the coming tax time.
