Interactive Brokers

Keeps trying to "log in". up to attempt 25!

Had that happen a few times.
There is a link problem with the server.
It does sort it self out.
I cleared it once with a re set of computer etc.

Ive had it well over 25 times trying to connect.
hasnt happened for a few years now.
It will be unique to you.

Started using IB to execute my Euro Stoxx Index futures orders this month which trades about 3 times a week, great rate at only 2 Euro per side but what I didn’t realise was you get charged 0.50 Euro if you cancel an order !, something to do with the exchange, so each time I have entered an order in as GTC and then cancelled it a couple of day later if it never got filled ive been charged !, Well FMOB, I know its not much but from now on will only enter orders as good for the day only.

Anyone know if all Eurex products are the same with IB ?, as i was going to place orders for the Bund and Schatz when i get signals to do so.

Hi,
I am looking at opening a trading account with Interactive Brokers.

As I understand, they will not be a CHESS sponsor, which (from my limited knowledge) I believe that the shares will not be 'held' under my name. So, I cannot see them in my account at ComputerShare.

How does Interactive Brokers handle dividends and franking credits?

they advise you of divs. in advance

And you can get a div statement any time and of course an end of FY one with franking for all divs.
like.....

I didn't receive a single response to my questions a few months ago. Does that mean that there are no such features available in IB? That no-one else trades opening/closing auctions in a similar manner? That perhaps you didn't understand what I was looking for? I'd love some response, but perhaps this is just out of the ball park of most traders.

So if there is someone else that looks at the auction opening price, or indicative auction price, or calculated opening price, or whatever it might be called on your platform, (but especially if you're also using IB), I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Cheers,
Brenton.

anyone can please answer this guy question? i am stuck at the exact problem with him...

please please please...

ps: his earlier post was :

Hi,

I would like to know if there is a way to display indicative prices during the opening and closing auctions for Australian stocks.

I've found that there is a column on TWS which you can insert called "Auction Price" but this does not populate during the opening or closing auctions.

I've found it to be crucial if you're trading on smaller stocks as whether the stock opens at 29c or 29.5c can be the whole reason for your trade, and so I'd like to have this updating in real time. I have previously traded using First Prudential (used Web-iress) and Marketech and both of these had the feature. Even Comsec has it these days where it will display the indicative opening/closing price based on all the submitted buy and sell orders, but of course you need to refresh it.

Of course you can always see the prices in market depth updating in real time, but if there are many orders over multiple price levels it can be difficult to work out at a glance. Thus the requirement for a simple software tool to display what the average of those prices will be.

Anyone know if this is possible? Or have a way around it? An add-on tool to TWS for example? Or have I just missed the feature somewhere?

Also, figured I could throw it out there: often I see a computer operating during the opening/closing auctions (on small stocks), such that they want the stock to close at a certain price, and it will automatically adjust order sizes to be say '1 share' less than the bid or ask depending on where they are hoping to get the stock to close. I've never been able to find any details on how to get a copy of, buy, etc. one of these programs to work in with order entry in this way. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Baxter.

Are you trialling the new commsec research? It seems its doing what your describing....(could be wrong, still a newbie, don't get some of the terms).

Hi Sergio,

I googled, trawled through IB's various forums, and called phone support, and could not find an answer to what seems like a simple option offered by many/most other platforms. It's quite weird that it doesn't seem to work on IB, or that someone hasn't come up with a program taking the data feed from IB to calculate the opening price.

Please let me know if you end up finding out anything about this.

Inyaface - perhaps you should read my post again - I want a function within TWS using my existing dynamic data, certainly nothing to do with Comsec thanks.

Cheers,
Baxter.

Use the API function and populate the depth into excel. Then you'll me bale to get it to give you matched price. Just about anything is possible in TWS, you just need to do the work.

Thanks guys,

what finally i did is using the other broker's data to find out the indicative price.
it is a time delay and not that convenient but should be fine so far..

Sergio

HI everyone,

i am a new member of IB =]

i learn IB platform from couple of recorded webminars and posts from member of ASF.

however, i might update some info that i found on ASF and its kinda expired by now :D

these might helpful for another newbie member of IB/ppl that interested with IB (definitely not for the pro)=]

-deposit money : use "wire" options, fill all the requirement and IB will then show their BSB and account number of Bank of America (Sydney branch)

-you only can withdraw money once a month otherwise a fee incur and you must leave at least $2k on your account otherwise fee incur as well

-update TFN : i was forget my TFN at the time of registering, to update it, i log in to account management , once u logged in, see an icon next to "log out" which is your IB account and start with "U". Click it and click account details.
then, see the fourth row from the top (third row will be your name) and click on W-8......scroll down the form until the end of part 1 then fill your TFN there. then scroll to the bottom and click continue

-funds requirements: $10k at least. but if you under 25/26(i forget the exact age) you can deposit as low as $3k.
i am 22 at the moment and they ACCEPTED my $3k as opening balance.

-to open IB account is now EASY. you just need to scan your passport and electric/water bill (legalised by police first).
then upload the soft copy through their website and send the hard copy to their Sydney office. (exactly the same things that u need to do to open an account with comsec/e trade)

-no market depth will be shown unless you subscribe to their live dynamic data for around $37 per month
(if you have two brokerage, you can see market depth on other brokerage platform and trade with IB)

-there is NO indicative price shown on auction periods
(if you have two brokerage, you can see market depth on other brokerage platform and trade with IB)

happy trading everyone =]

cheers
Sergio

Sergio,

I assume you means assets of $2k not cash of $2K?
