Can anyone tell me why there aren't any shortable stocks available on IB. I have read the news websites and ASIC has not issued anything that would suggest that short selling is banned

A lot of stocks are shortable to me...

Sorry im a bit confused (which isnt hard)

With IB - are accounts held in USD ? or AUSD ?

Is an optional thing ?

Thanks

You can set your "base" currency as AUD. When you buy other currency dominated shares, you have the option to either convert your base currency to another foreign currency to purchase it, or borrow foreign currency to purchase it. I believe the latter is default.

Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Hi,

I’m up to the last section of the IB application process which is the Funding Notification page. I was wanting to do a pay anyone transfer but none of the options seem appropriate, i.e. Wire Transfer, Electronic Bank ACH Transfer (I thought it may have been this one but in limitations it states that its only available from a US bank), Check, Online Bill Payment (When I clicked on this it seemed to imply check deposit).

You guys that use IB how do you initiate an online transfer with the above options?

Also will I be required to send ID? I nominated my drivers licence but I just noticed it’s worn out and faded so i’m not sure how it will scan.

Thanks in advance.

From memory, it's the top one.

They don't seem to care at all if you are going to do a pay anyone transfer, so long as they know money is coming in.

Thanks Chops,:)

Progressing with wire transfer it came up with BSB codes/account #, now i just need to renew my licence on Monday to obtain a scanable piece of plastic.

I am a newbie to IB and am loving it. One thing has me puzzled though. I am subscribed to ASX market data but in any event whilst I can call up symbols from almost any exchange on my TWS I cannot get RCY (River City Motor Group). Would someone mind seeing if they have the same problem and reply. Many thanks.

G Day,

Currently with my aussie options broker I use my existing stock portfolio as margin for my options positions, initially when I set up my account I nominated a HIN for the chess sponsored stocks in question then these stocks become untradeable(reserved).

I was just wondering if IB use the same margining process for aussie options, i.e. stocks get reserved, receive a haircut as required by the OCH and the remaining value acts as margin.

I checked the IB website under margin info>non US options but there is a statement saying “refer to specific exchange” so I assume that the margining process is the exactly the same as what I’m used to but of course I don’t need to nominate a HIN as the stocks are not chess sponsored.

I set up the IB account type as Reg T Margin but I don’t think that relevant for trading aussie options.

Could someone please clarify this for me,

Thanks in advance.

Hi All,

For you computer geeks out there i have a query regarding the IB TWS login page. There's a option to use SSL so i ticked it because the thought of greater security attracted me but TWS failed to load.

When i closed down the login box and tried again without SSL it loaded.

Has anybody got an explanation on why is it so.

Thanks.

To use the security feature IB will send you a code card which will show codes relating to security numbers displayed at time of login.

Without it you wont get in.

Thanks tech/a

Must be part of the enhanced security that you're entitled to once the account reaches >100K, recall reading about it.

Hello again,

Is anybody using the charting package on TWS to track Historical Volatility and Implied Volatility on the aussie market.
I had a go today but no success.

Any Tips?

Thanks in advance.

BTW i have got aussie data turned on.

Anybody having trouble logging on to TWS? Today i can't get past the login, seems to just freeze up.

Even loaded the program onto my computer as suggested and tried again still to no avail. Hopefully it will be resolved by Monday.

I logged into it just then fine. Maybe try updating/reinstalling TWS and/or Java. Cold booted your PC?

Can't login after the markets close. Think it shuts down about 7-8am Sat and reopens late Sun night. You'd have to check the exact times.

You may need to clean your registry or at least delete cookies and delete temporary internet files.

I don`t have IB but you could try to operate in safe mode with networking and see how you go.This mode uses only the basic programs to function so there isn`t other dumb programs disrupting processing.

1) Turn off computer
2) Turn on computer and immediately hold down F8 key until page comes up with options to start.
3) Using the direction arrow key choose SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING
4) Press enter key

There you go ... working in safe mode.
