Thanks guys, seems that my modem had blown up overnight. Kept dropping in and out.

Pull that box out slip in the next.... ;)

Arrrgggghhh! :banghead:

You get what you pay for I guess...

Just had a frustrating chat to IB support. (and this is NOT a sexist or racist comment, it is an OBSERVATION!)

Generally I find that the Asian guy is quite knowledgeable and helpful where as the asian girl(s) I have spoken to seem to struggle a little.

2 questions they were unable to help me with;
1)What is the code format required to get TWS to return stock prices to an API? Off the top of my head it is something simialr to; BHP@AX or something like that.

(FYI I am trying to get option prices into SamoaSky and am having trouble. I've configured it to use the TWS API, TWS alerts me to incoming connections, but the TWS tells me that no such stock code exisits)

2)How can I transfer out of my IB account into my Aussie bank account without being slugged a $25 fee by my bank?

I can transfer to a local Australia CitiBank IB account; so why can't they transfer money from this account to my Aussie bank account when I request a transfer out?

My Bank (bankwest) tells me that the transfer from IB is either coming from an OS bank (but i'm not paying any FX fees or rates) or it is something like a "instantaneous" transfer which comes complete with a $25 fee!

Now I have had a frustrating day and know I cant take all my anger out on IB (hell I can go trade with Comsux or another 'cheap' broker anytime I want") but it wold be handy to get these answers.

Surely that is a problem with your Bank. nothing to do with IB. ANZ & NAB don't charge me a thing to do it.

EDIT; And on further thought.Surely the problem with your API is not ib but one that SamoaSky should be answering??

RazzaDazzla,

If you don't like IB, change brokers simple. You whinge about every little problem and half the time its not even IB's fault.

BHP-ASX-STK-AUD, will give you BHP or whatever stocks data.

And if you don't want to get slugged $25 - change banks or transfer it into a different bank account. This has nothing to do with IB, it is an issue with BankWest

For trading options ?

Comsec is not option trader friendly, calling them an options broker is a bit of a stretch.

Exactly, my bank doesn't charge either, the big 4 seem OK.

No IB complaints here, it's actually thing of beauty.

Lol. It's like you accidentally walked into the IB fan club!

It will take some time but you will start to like IB soon enough. To join the fan club just wire me the membership fee of $250. I am not responsible for any fees your bank might charge you, however. :)

NoMore4s;

I'm not sure that you can show evidence of me whinging about every little problem with IB.

I agree it is a 2 sided coing with IB and also SamoaSky and my bank.

but...

IB should have been able to give me an example of; BHP-ASX-STK-AUD.

They could also confirm the method that IB uses to transfer money to my account. eg. is it an international wire transfer, is it a "instantaneous" transfer?

If I ring a big 4 bank to check if my transfers from IB to my Big 4 bank account will be fee free; I need to know what transfer method they are using don't I?

If I say "I get money transfered from IB to my account" they'll say; "if we don't know what sort of transfer it is, we can't answer your question sir"

I am not attacking IB; was merely venting some frustration and trying to get some answers.

I know IB is leaps and bounds above Comsux! :)

My fan club membership application form and fee is in the post!

R.D.: you dont seem to get it.....

if you open an account with one of the big4 you will receive the money from IB without any or VERY low fees like 20 cents - period -

First of all, I agree this is a IB fan club. So you should fully expect harsh replies from us if we see any criticism on our god like broker. :D (haha j/k)

Back to your problems, maybe you should rephrase your questions to IB in a more detailed manner.

The fee charged by your bank for wire transfer from IB is an interesting one. Like others, I agree it's not IB fault. (disclosure: yes, I am a fan, but even if I weren't one, I would still agree :) )

Your remaining option would be to threaten your bank and tell them that all other BIG 4 banks do not charge this fee, and why are you charging it. Tell them you will switch bank if you don't waive the fee. In most cases, they probably will on the basis of this information.

On your other question, one thing you need to expect from their support is that they FULLY EXPECT all their clients are PROFESSIONAL and EXPERIENCED traders. You knew about it when you apply for an account and they asked for such information.

I hope you don't take offense from this though. It is true and this is usually the answer most people give when other people (from other forums too) are venting about the lack of IB support on these "simple" issues. (at least in the mind of experienced traders)

P.S: You can deposit the fan club application fee to my bank account thank you. :)

IB are not interested in Muppet's joining up with em, hence the experience requirements they ask for. If you can't work it out from the webinars / website, or sending them a ticket then give up now. I love the fact that they put the onus on the account holder to do the home work.

one of the most helpful people I have spoken to at IB was an Asian girl, and by the way they do have a Sydney office you can call..........

Thanks for the reply fanbois!

No smarty can answer me this one question;

What method of transfer does IB use to transfer money from them to an Australian Bank Account?

My current bank account receives transfers from other third parties (within Australia) and no fee is charged to me by my bank.

Magically, IB transfers money to me and I am slugged a hefty fee from my bank for the 'privilege'.

For the 5th time, my bank tells me that this fee is because the payment is either an international wire transfer or it is an "immediate" payment.

So; What method is IB using to transfer money?
As stated, If I go asking around the banks if they'll charge me a fee; I need to know what method they're using.

I am a HUGE fan of IB, but I want to find out the answer to this question. I completely understand the "NO Muppets" business model they are running. MY ISP is a "No MUPPETS" ISP and as such can offer cheaper prices.

So, to any more attackers, I am not insulting IB, I just want to know what method of transfer IB use when you 'cash out'.

Can anyone confirm or deny if they have 'cashed out' from IB to a CBA streamline account with no fee from CBA?

I'll be right back. I'm just going to go put on my asbestos flame retardant suit! Damn it gets itchy!

trembling; I've got a lot of respect for you here... but you seemed to avoid increasing the font for "instantaneous Transfer"

Is this because you KNOW it is an international wire transfer? if so, just say so.
:chainsaw::jerry::samurai::microwave:cuckoo: :fan:twak::horse:

Maybe we should just have a :bier: and a :kebab:

Your getting warmer - very warm - maybe even hot :xyxthumbs:xyxthumbs:wreath :kiffer::jump:

I've got access to a CBA Streamline account. Anyone able to confirm or deny if they have transferred to a streamline account from IB and been hit with a fee?
