Out of the blue this afternoon I got a phone call from the crowd we have everything insured with.
So, after 8 weeks from lodgment date finally have been told that 2 of the claims are settled and the money is on its way.
Was asked if I would take a cash offer, response will you take a cash offer on the premiums.
That part of the conversation ended abruptly.
Got 1 claim to go, the big one for house and shed.

Well today was one of those days that one will not forget in a hurry.
Had a grader clearing a 1k fence line this morning, 6am start great job.
Finished off a difficult fence job.
At lunchtime received a phone call from our insurers.
Got the thumbs up that they are going to pay us out for the house and shed damage caused by the tornado back in January.
All that is required now is some rain to fill the tanks and dams.
Anyone got a hotline with the Bloke in the Heavens?

Yeah mate, you just sit quietly one evening with a nice relaxing drink and then you "think" your request to the rain god.............

Dear Rain God, is it possible that you could arrange for it to piss down sometime in the next month please

It may not work but at least you had a nice relaxing drink

Came close this afternoon but missed us by a few K.

I currently have a fencing quote out for a client.
That was submitted 3 months ago.
Came back, we want the workings or how you arrived at this figure.
Supplied.
Now this company wants the client and me to give our permission to them to give my quote to a repaired of their choice to come up with a "realistic" quote.
This quote involves the owner's property and 3 neighbours so it is not exactly peanuts involved.
Nay, Nay from both of us.
Get them to do the hard yards on their own.
I'm guessing this will drag on for some time yet, as the insurer is a car insurer, who advertises pretty heavily on TV and reckons they are a good deal when it comes to general insurance.
I keep on telling people say with the 2 that are rural based.

Just heard from the client about post no 10.
Has finally had my quotes accepted, only after sitting on the phone for more than hour and trying to explain why their pittance of a cash settlement was not acceptable.
7 times less than the quote.
Anyway, the cash is now in his bank account, and a new insurer is being looked at.
Sh****ns would be the worst that I have ever dealt with in over 40 years.

This story about a family dealing with Holland Insurance after suffering major storm damage is heart breaking and chilling.
WTF do we pay Thousands a year for home insurance ?

Victorian couple forced to demolish storm-hit home after delays from insurer, ASIC alleges

Australia's corporate watchdog alleges one of the country's biggest insurers took nearly three-and-a-half years to resolve a claim over storm damage to a property in regional Victoria.

The Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) is suing Hollard Insurance, accusing it of breaching its "duty of utmost good faith" in its handling of the claim.

A regional Victorian couple lodged a claim two days after suffering major storm damage to their home.

In late October 2021, major storms battered the state, resulting in thousands of calls for help to the State Emergency Service and leaving more than half a million properties without power.

ASIC said Hollard — Australia's fifth largest general insurer — deliberated for 18 months before rejecting the claim in April 2023.

Insurer caused 'prolonged harm' to couple, watchdog alleges

The watchdog claims Hollard relied on "a non-expert opinion over prior expert reports" on the cause of the damage to the property and offered the couple a small cash settlement, which was rejected.

ASIC also alleged Hollard delayed decisions over repairs and took nine months to initiate an inspection by a structural engineer and delayed providing temporary accommodation to the couple.

I would wager that their insurance renewals will take a dive when this story gets out and proves what a mob of shyt bags they really are.

I just checked out Product Review and Hollards received some horrific reports from customers. I believe the scored the lowest of all insurance companies. The second link shows the comparisons with other companies

Like most insurance companies they trade under various names, they also underwrite other names

Dig deep before doing business with any of them

Has anyone had a good experience with a travel insurance company, that they can share?

Been awhile since we went overseas but used to use RAC made claims never had an issue but think they were a bit more expensive.

Part of one claim was transport in Bali got the drivers business card wrote the fee on it, copied and sent off, was paid for it no questions.

No, but I had a bad experience with Insure and Go.

I had insurance with them for a trip planned when covid struck.

I had to fight tooth and nail to get payouts for cancelled travel and accommodation and still fell well short of what I had paid.

I was lucky with covid, I had booked through a local travel agent and she gave the money back without question.

The recent issues I had, was recovering a suitcase back from a cruise ship, I had platinum card insurance for the trip, which cost $2,300 when medical included pre existing conditions.

Long story short, it cost $1500 to get the case back and it was difficult to get $500 back off the insurance, the next time I wont pack the laptop in the suitcase, then they can keep it.
