Perhaps we could have a thread for hushed news events or news events that are not reported in Australia but in other parts of the world.

For example a Mormon was stabbed in Sydney but no one really knows anything about it.

I did a search on google and couldn't find anything from an Australian source. Certainly noithing form the big papers.

Is there a reason for this?

Maybe there are too many stabbings to report all.

This was an article in the Sydney Morning Herald 2 years ago, so numbers are probably higher now:

TWO people are stabbed in NSW every day, with police seemingly unable to curb knife crime.

The Sun-Herald commissioned the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics to compile the latest available figures of stabbings across the state.

The figures, released yesterday, reveal that between April 2005 and March 2006, police responded to 876 stabbings - a rate of almost 17 each week. More than 530 of the attacks resulted in wounds classified as "serious to life threatening".

Maybe the newspapers could do a weekly summary, like they do with births and deaths.

oh, and if it's not on the internet or distributed electronically - then it is highly likely the Australian media won't report it - there is very little real journalism going on in Australia any more.

I had a stab at the book of mormon once, it's a "doosey". I wonder what the value of those gold Tablets would be worth at $770/ ounce.

Maybe they should allow everyone to arm themselves to put all on a level playing field.

Nooooooo you cant do that! i mean if my wife is walking on her own at the shops and some thugs attack her she needs to use her handbag as a weapon.....

Soon all our rights will be taken away and as my old mate Charlton Heston used to say "The only way you will take them is from my cold dead hands"

In this country protecting the rights of criminals is apparently more appropriate then protecting the rights of its citizens.....

i.e a criminal found with an illegal firearm will get well fk all for it (slap on the wrist as many have in the past) but if a licensed firearm owner is in possession of an illegal firearm they get the full force of the law......

Law abiding citizens will always take it up the ass

*rant off*

Then there will be alot more stabbing! but hopefully the guys who deserve it will be the majority that get stabbed.

What about protection?
Maybe all clothes these days should be stabproof or bulliet proof.
Maybe we should all wear chainmail or plate amour... like in the good old medieval days.

FWIW the murder rate in England has increased, on a per capita basis, by 400% since the abolition of hanging. On the other hand, in Harris County, Texas, where executions are aggressively carried out, there has been a 72% decrease in the annual murder rate since 1982...As they say, 'go figure'.

Yes, it's very interesting how one can find statistics to support whatever point one wishes to make.

For instance:

"By contrast, the Northeast has the lowest murder rate in the country and the fewest number of executions. The Northeast also experienced the sharpest decline in its murder rate among the four regions, while carrying out no executions in 2006-08."

"The homicide rate in England (which does not have CP) and Wales in 2000 was at 1.5 per 100,000 (USA: 5.9 - which does have CP):"

Bloody oath lol.

I agree, taking weapons from law abiding citizens only means that then only the Crims have weapons

Its just backward logic, the Government seems to run on that pretty well though:rolleyes:

If everyone had a weapon, I do believe there are more good than bad people, so if everyone could defend themselves then maybe the crims would think twice before attacking someone.

I mean banning things make them illegal, but I'm guessing criminals don't have much appreciation for the law to begin with . . right?

The 1996 gun buybacks ring a bell? 700million of wasted tax payer dollars...

Even if you outlawed all weapons the only people that will be left with them are outlaws (hence they dont abide by the law).

Anywayz back on topic.........

MS you have successfully failed the RED NECK test:D

Our local newspaper lists all drunken drivers brought before the courts and their penalties. The metropolitan dailies should do this as a public service, afterall you might live in the same neighbourhood as one of them. I suppose the civil liberties people don't like it.

Violence begets violence.

I don't think a 'good person' would carry a weapon to defend themselves. By their nature, weapons are for the purpose of intentionally hurting someone.
What happens when you let loose your big, mean dog? They let loose a bigger, meaner dog, e.g. you carry a baton and they will carry a gun.

Excellent point. I agree.

Anyway, back to the original topic...

Perhaps the fact that the person was a Mormon was why it was not reported. Maybe if the person was a Muslim, it might have gotten more coverage.
