Human potential

so i coudnt find this topic in any archives, and thought some may find it as interesting as i do.

I guess the question is, what do you think is the limit to human potential?

I personally don't believe there is one, but i think there is two categories.

1 - human potential without being altered by chemicals, substances, operations, or anything that would be deemed 'un-natural'
2 - human potential taking into consideration all of the above and more.

Its the second that makes me believe that human potential is virtually limitless. In fact one of my favourite movies is called just that 'Limitless' and recommend it.

Is there anything that we as humans wont be able to achieve as individuals through scientific breakthroughs in the distant and possibly even near future? technology and science is advancing at a blistering pace, with more and more impressive breakthroughs every year. people are living longer, overcoming problems that couldnt be over come before. stem cell research has the potential to have those unable to walk possibly walk again, and this is just the beginning. will we soon be able to choose what genes we give our children to ensure they have the best chance at life?

will there be drugs that unleash the full power of the human brain, making Einsteins theories seem equivalent to that of a pre-schooler?

there are scientists devleoping bionic eyes, ive seen documentaries where scientists have managed to train a magnetic north into people allowing them to navigate far more effectively as animals do.

will there come a time where everyone is a genius at the very least? and even to a more extreme view will things like telekinesis and things of this nature become possible? i know it all seems a bit out there, but things being achieved today im sure were deemed impossible by some in the past.

if you put aside the religious and moral views of 'we cant play god' and just go for it, we would see things move even faster!! after all, if there was a god, why would he design such a being that is capable of achieving things he didn't want us to be able to achieve??

i personally believe we have barely even scathed the surface of true human potential. anyway just wanted to hear some others views on the topic!

I agree.

I often have in depths with my son and his mates.
They are like the geeks from big bang theory.
Most are Doctors or Masters of some scientific discipline.

The stuff they discuss is just mind blowing.
Way way beyond mere mortals like us.

The last chat was on organic micro chips.
They live-- and self learn.
Science has discovered 12 dimensions.
Cells my be able to " learn" how to re build itself.
Wars won't be fought by military.
There are worm holes in space.
Science is that close to dis proving god.
We may well be the last generation to die!

And on and on it goes.
The human species really doesn't know it's potential as it cannot
Understand how to grow into it in one life time.

I watched Australian Story with Ric Richardson who took on microsoft because they misused his patent.
Follow it up and you will see a very smart man.
One can only wonder how many groups of people of high intelligence are being harnessed around the world.

By 2030 we will be back studying medieval history trying to fined out how to survive in the country side with out power, town water or sewage . growing our own food and live stock and defend out homes at night against the hoards.
Having a new solar powered Ipad or Iphone 29 will not help when a hoe is more important.
Yes we will survive and re build only to do it all over again

I think it must be the coolest thing to have those discussions with your son and his mates....sounds like you did a good job there Tech.

Did nothing.Well probably being a
Mate as well as a dad payed off.
I'm very lucky to have the opportunity.
Damned interesting and I'm amazed
By the intelligence out there.
I reckon it's pretty cool to have a son and
A circle I Can learn so much from!

Oh and they are all interested in trading!

I remember feeling like you after I saw that movie. I liked it quite a bit so I googled some reviews, and apparently the claim that we only use about 10% of our brains is utter rubbish.

Define "un-natural". Is a protein powder un-natural? Is a herb or vitamin un-natural? Is a drug "un-natural"? Many drugs are derived from plants. Would you consider a cold tablet or panadol un-natural? There are vitamins/herbs that are banned by ASADA/WADA, yet available over the counter for anyone to buy.

Human potential – a workplace perspective.

Does anyone remember the campaign back in the 1980’s that suggested that it would be far more productive to work smarter, not harder? Why is it that 30 years later I am required to work physically harder for longer hours than what I did back then, in the same workplace, despite great advances in technology since then? Why does the physical component of work still outstrip the gains achieved through technological productivity gains? I am made to work smarter and harder, but the employer’s quest for ever increasing productivity is solely focussed on the physical component.

It seems like human potential is something that is not commonly achieved by those in control, so old-fashioned is their thinking.

My employees had the same view.
I narrowed it down to their leadership.
So being at the top of the rung I looked at
My delegation and found that my production manager
Was at his highest level of in competence.
Simply by organizing forward planning and involving staff
In their own production levels we achieved 30% more
Production with the same staff and hrs.

Profitability of course sky rocketed.
Smarter not harder!

Oh and I got ride of the production manager
Didn't need him!
You know it's surprising how little you need some of these middle
Management people. They tend to forget what it is they are supposed to
Be doing!

i didnt quote any particular percentage as i was unsure and havent researched it myself, but regardless of what percentage we actually do use, i still believe that there is unbelieveable potential yet to be harnessed in relation to the human brain.

i personally would deem anything that is processed in any way shape or form to be un-natural. unless you can pull it from the ground and digest it i guess it's not natural.

and when looking at it that way already human potential is already being greatly improved through use of things like performance enhancing drugs and steroids etc, the list goes on.

We have so many levels of management it is not funny.

The worker level. With that is the team leader or leading hand, but he does the job of the old fashioned Foreman, but still on the tools. Above that is the sectional Maintenance Superintendant. Above him is the Department Maintenance Manager. Above him is the Site Maintenance Manager. Above him it is the General Manager.

I agree. Yet you have hundreds of products being marketed as "Natural Remedies" which all come out of factories. It says a lot about the gullibility of the human being.
They will eschew pharmaceutical products which have been exhaustively tested before being listed, yet happily chomp into these 'alternative' products which have not been tested in any sort of decent clinical trials, despite the often extraordinary claims they make for remarkable physiological change.

Human potential is limited by corruption and what the elite wish to limit our race to achieving in order to derive most profit out of it for themselves.

Conspiracy theories aren't exactly what I was looking for star.. I do however agree that large corporations are guilty of limiting the pace at which technology improves. as they wait for products to reach saturation to maximize profits before releasing the next big thing that they already had developed 20 years ago.

Well it's just a fact. Why is China the only country to be developing LFTR for instance. We could get rid of all uranium nuclear, coal and gas power plants in no time and replace them with a clean safe power generation method which was already tested and proved decades ago.

And yet no company nor government in the western world has made the decision to develop the technology

Just one example of what I'm talking about.

but if you were able to put aside the political bull****, do you not believe that what we are able to achieve as a race, and what the human body is capable of, is indeed limitless?
