Could someone please explain to me how you accurately check if a share is outperforming the AO and its industry sector... as well as if the industry sector is outperforming the AO...

when using the figures and charts im a little unsure of how what you are looking for and how the figures compare...

If you have software with RSC (Relative Strength Comparison), you can compare stock to stock, stock to sector and stock to indices.

Use an online service like www.google.com/finance. You can compare stocks to the S&P ASX indexes listed here: http://www.asx.com.au/asx/statistics/indexInfo.do

In google finance type in the asx stock code as (eg BHP) ASX:BHP and type in the S&P index as (eg: S&P 200) as INDEXASX:XJO

The google finance charts let you compare several stocks and/or indexes over various time lines (use the slider at the bottom of the chart to change the time interval).
