Thanks for that Swingstar.

Will have to change my eating habits (especially sugar & fat intake).

Its hard to drink water in bigger quantities when your not use to it, but will give it a go.

Cheers

Don't need to eat less, in fact it's harder to lose weight with a slow metabolism. Coffee is also ok (I can't live without it - it's one of my life's pleasures), just replace full cream with skim and go low on the sugar, maybe even replace with sweeteners.

Eat MORE, but healthily. Don't over-eat, but eat frequently. It's simple - I don't know why there are so many fad diets about. Simply replace white bread with wholemeal, full cream milk with skim (and in fact anything that has a low in fat/sugar alternative), eat three mains a day, have healthy snacks in between when feeling hungry (i.e. fruits, few nuts, no fat yoghurt, etc.), and drink lots of water - about 1-2L a day.

For breakfast, up to you, but ensure it's low in fat and sugars. Actually, it's probably not that important if you are active for most of the day. For lunch, just eat a salad roll (or something equivalent to a footlong Sub), that contains salad or vegies and some meat. For dinner, pretty much the same - low in fat and sugar, plenty of protein and some carbs - something like grilled chicken breast and steamed vegies or equivalent.

And, exercise... the above will keep the weight off and decrease your fat over time, but in conjunction with exercise will see it fall off. High-intensity cardio is good, but walking is just as effective at burning fat, but obviously you won't be as healthy as you would if sweating it out regularly.

Anyway, that's all there is to it... simple, and easy once you get into the habit.

It's better to drink water and avoid coffee. If you must drink coffee leave out milk and sugar. Coffee raises blood pressure, so only drink decaffinated or half caff.
Bread, don't eat any bread made for shop sale, only eat home made bread. Bread should keep for around 8 hours, if it lasts longer it's loaded with fat and other additives. Best to avoid.
Go easy on the nuts and seeds they are heavy in calories. Eat some of these as they are good for you, 5 nuts and 50g of seeds, max per day.

Avoid eating high carb foods late at night as the body turns these into cholesterol overnight. If you take tablets to reduce cholesterol take them late in the evening, do not eat grapefruit if you take these.

If you want to lose weight cut down on food, exercise does very little in this regard. Brisk walking is good for fitness and allows blood pressure to return to normal more quickly, in time that is. Strolling is a waste of time.

I'd tip the scales at around 80kg, not to bad considering I'm 6'3.
Seems to be a lot of pressure nowadays on the opposite sex weight wise. Personally I think thier is nothing more unattractive than an anorexic looking female......., curvacious ones are the go:p: .

Try this BMI - much better!

Any Billy Connolly fans out there? If so, and you went to his last gig maybe 12 months ago, he referred to white bread versus brown bread debate. We had been having this struggle at home trying to get the family to eat healthier alternatives. So we were ready to listen.

Billy put it all into perspective though! He said while brown bread may let you live another couple of years longer than white bread, who wants to sacrifice the joys of eating white bread for maybe 50 years, just to get an extra couple of years later in life when you are a drooling wrinklie. being spoon fed and washed by others watching day time TV for company.

So I buy white bread - but at least is SAYS it is low in GI!

When we got to the Entertainment centre where Billy was, there were four of us. But only 3.5 seats! Why? Because there was this very obese person who could not fit into his seat and he protruded into one of ours. Could not budge him so my partner had to sit sideways for 3 hours. We arent the type to make a fuss or embarass this guy further so we didnt squeak a word. Well one of Billy's skits was about obese people on planes and theatres taking up other people's space! And he went on and on and on about how obese people take over thin people's space and they should have to pay for two seats on planes etc! We were crying trying to stop laughing about it all and we dared not look at our 'obese person' in case we totally lost it. But everyone around was laughing and carrying on about this guy in our seats! (For those who dont know him, Billy is very thin!, as are we!) What goes around comes around I guess - call it Karma maybe.

...around 80kg, ...I'm 6'3.
Interesting how most of us still mix imperial and metric.

When I was training gallopers, it was not uncommon the refer to 800m, 4 furlongs and half mile all the the same sentence. lol (they're all the same distance)

As they say Wayne, "USA is going metric inch by inch" ;)

Are you saying it's 4 furlongs to one, and half mile to the other?

PS Freeball - bet you'd like a dollar for every time people have asked you "how's the weather up there "? :2twocents

PS lol - Prospector - white bread ! - you've gotta be kidding ... you prefer white bread !!! over good healthy stuff ?? (lol) - isn't there a thread on bread somewhere back there -(?) - poor bloke musta been embarrassed :(
