hey everyone,
there is alot of news on about how obese, fat, huge etc. Australia is and is becoming.
So I thought I would set up a poll to see how big we all are here.

Im in the 81-90kg bracket but up until a little while ago I would have easily made it into the 91-100kg bracket. Lucky for me I got a job that is alot more physical then what I usually do (very litle, hehe like half of Australia) and have lost 6-7kg in about 6 months. Work is like being paid to go to the gym almost.

I would also like to point out that a persons weight dosnt exactly reflect how healthy they are so dont be self conscious about participating in the poll or even comenting on this issue.

Take the lady below for example,
She weighs 145KG but she is not exactly un healthy or fat.
As a matter of fact she is the tallest women in the world @ 7'4".



so go on, what bracket are you?

WOW! Big girl!

I'm in the whippet class, 173cm and ~67kg.

When I trained gallopers for a living I did a lot of trackwork and kept myself down to 58-59kg.

I'm not sure if you're trying to find out the forums average weight or to see if the forum is generally overweight, normal or underweight.

But if you're trying to determine if the forum is overweight or not then polling the forum's Body Mass Index would be more appropriate imo

FWIW: The Body-Mass Index (BMI) is the official medical measure which determines whether you are overweight or not. Your weight (kilograms) is divided by your height (metres) squared. For example, 85kg divided by 1.83 metres squared equals 25.3.

< 20 = Underweight

25 = Healthy weight

25-50 = Overweight

> 30 = Obese

My BMI is 25.9 atm.

I thought about that but decided against it.
people want to have fun on a forum every now and then and unwind, by making it a hassel I probably would have got very few replys.

a BMI of 25.9 is just a tad over a healthy weight

The BMI can be pretty misleading. I've been "overweight" on the index since I was 13. Still remember the look on my mum's face when I told her
At the time I was doing morning and afternoon swimming training all year round and playing soccer on the weekends during winter. Trust me folks, there wasn't much fat on me
 

I'm not so sure PF - maybe the fat was in places you couldn't see without using extra mirrors
 
at 13!!! I think not If I had a large, cough, Ego, then I could possibly say that the weight was hidden where people generally couldn't see
But I'd be lying
It's a good general guide, but because it doesn't take into account bodyshape, can't give a truly accurate description. Find someone who goes to the gym regularly and is fairly well built(but still without much fat on them) and you'll find someone overweight according to their BMI.
 
I agree with you professor, BMI is not accurate. In fact not even the institute of sport uses it anymore.
 
y dotor told me I'm obese in the BMI ratings.

didn't take into account a 130cm chest, though.. It would be great to buy off the rack shirts.
The BMI is a great rating for taking into account the masses, not a one on one..The pinch test is a better result for this.

I think that the BMI can be used on a one-to-one because I assume the cuttoffs for each range in the BMI (posted earlier) are derived from 1000's of tests/volunteers/guinea pigs......but I'm not saying it is fool proof in 100% of cases.
 
plenty of people are liars on this board, look at the survey results, they do not represent a true reading.

According to the latest stats more than 60% of males and 50% of females are overweight in Aust.

Come on fess up, who is a liar!
 
BMI is useless. It doesn't measure body fat, which makes all the difference.

I weigh 80kg, only 9-10kg of which is fat.

BTW, that's a huge b---- !!
 
I'm 85kg
but 195cm's

slowly putting on weight from the gym... used to be the same height and weighed 70kg!

and yes, BMI has nothing to do with how overweight you are. I have small shoulders, and as a result have been 'extremely underweight' since I was about 13. Think I'm only 'underweight' now, and 90kg is my ideal target from memory.
 
Im 108KGs and 6'1'' in old terms just sneaked into 101KG-110KGs .Like the Mint Man I started a physically hard job after being a self funded retiree for two years and have lost about 12kgs does that mean Im a harder worker than you Minty anyone HEAVIER i might finally win something :kebab :bier:
 
BMI is still used by Defence as a general indicator of body fat and potential for overweightness. It is just an 'indicator' however. If a body builder turns up and they see that he's mosty muscle then the doctor decides they are probably OK.

I'd like to know Prospectors numbers!!
