I'm looking for a handheld GPS unit. Will be mainly used for hiking and biking. I want it to be able to track longitude and latitude. Should be able to mark areas in open land and water. For instance, let's say I'm fishing out in the ocean, want to be able to mark that point, or if I'm on a hike in the middle of nowhere and I want to mark that spot for whatever reason.

I've seen a few that can be used with your mobile, but they seem to be more like a gps you'd use in your car. Not really looking for something that will give me street directions. Have that already for my car.

Anyone use these? Can you recommend one?

Gordon there are many on the market mate it depends on how much your budget is? If your budget stretches to around $700-800 or so then i recommend the Garmin 60 series gps's, its a mapping unit so its very easy to see whereabouts you are and many other things.

check that place out as they have really good prices on their range.

hope this helps

If you want to mark a spot in the bush just grab two sticks and make an "X".

If you want to mark a spot at sea just grab two sticks (that float) and make an "X".

Cheers

Marking a spot is all and truly well but how do you find the spot when your in a 100,000 hectare state forest? Yes i have navigated with a compass/map etc.. but a gps to me is a good tool for anyone going into the wild (land or sea).

Thats my :2twocents
