If you visit czech "Pilsener Urquell" is a must. Also Krustzovice and Budweiser (not that US Bud)

Gambrinus and Staropramen are also both good.

What a nice thread. I have just had some rather nice Lowenbrau beers. I love them.
I like Germans.

One of the finest brewerys in Bavaria. Löwenbräu Original and Löwenbräu Märzen are the best ones....

I found a gem yesterday at first choice liquor (god bless 'em!). Its called "Bellevue- Kriek", its cherry beer! Tastes awesome! It was $8 something a bottle (schooner size) but "lifes too short to drink cheap beer" (my favorite catch-cry).

Also got some belgians- hoegarden white, "grand cru" and forbidden fruit. Ill let you know what I think.

I have tried "Pilsner Urquell" in a sampler six pack; cant remember if i liked it though. One I dont like is schoferhoffer (sp?). Where thats from I dont know.

Another of my favorites is Grolsch. Cool bottle too.

Drink and be merry boys! :alcohol:

Picked up a slab of Konig Pilsner for $38 today (usually $55)

You know you're drinking quality when the ingredients are: water, barley, hops

I like my beer. I reeckon the best Aussie beer atm is coopers long necks!! Still no screw tops and goes down a treat. Boags is ok also. Also like a nice pint of guiness where they put the clove on top!! cheers.

howdy milko, - have a friend with a similar philosophy - "in life, drink the best wine first" - cant see why it shouldnt work for beer as well.;)

2. As for the bottle selling the product, if you're ever in Perth, check out Meads (fish restaurant) at Mosman Bay - they serve (used to serve?) a Slovakian beer called "Topvar".
http://beerlabels.com/labels/beers.pl/746/pivovar-topvar.html
The bottles have these beautiful near naked girls in bikinis with genuine "scratchems" for the g string etc. So , who remembers what the beer tastes like!. Realist would be in his element with these European wildcats, lol.

Propagation yeast station - continuously is being reached reproduction of yeast biosubstance under strict hygienic regime
Yeast plant - yeast are being treated here and pitching of future beer is being in process in cooling tanks
Fermenting plant - in these premises takes place main beer fermentation for one week
Fermenting plant - by alcool fermentation is changed substantial part of sugar on alcool
Cellar - green beer ripens min. 5 weeks at low temperature in 260 tanks
Cellar - at ripening is being created unique flavour of Topvar beer in present saturating of carbon dioxide
Filtration - automatically operated process of powder beer filtration with subsequent stabilization
Laboratory - physico-chemical laboratory is peakly furnished
alcohol = "alcool" apparently, and
"continuously is being reached reproduction" ...aha - sounds like Realist should go to this brewery ;)

Hehe,

I believe it was the West Berliners who embraced this biblical behest to the fullest during the Cold War - "Eat, drink and be merry, for tommorrow we die"

Here's what one "taster' thought of Topvar :-

Irishsnake from Oakland California :-
overall: 3.85
appearance: 4.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | mouthfeel: 4 | drinkability: 4.5

Beer pours a brilliantly clear gold with a nice white head that retains and laces well. nose is primarily of pils malt, with a typically sweet grainy malt note. flavor is smooth and somewhat creamy - hops are very minimal, and clean malt notes predominate. very smooth, easy drinking. a simple beer, but easy to drink and satisfying.

Here's what Donnebaby from North Carolina thought of Topvar :-
overall: 3.5
appearance: 4 | smell: 3 | taste: 3.5 | mouthfeel: 3.5 | drinkability: 3.5

Lasting bleached white cream head that's thick and hazy. Thick-looking gold body. Smells like honey and chalk. Taste mimics almost cider-like qualities, with crisp apples and lots of bread and powdery chalk. Hops are an afterthought, an echo of bitterness and a string of bite over the mellow, sweet taste. Ample smooth and syrupy body. Carbonation is full-mouth and bit extreme perhaps. Nice to have a lager for a change...

Reminds me of the wine tasters who met in the Hunter when the coal mines were in full swing "this Barrossa wine is a flirtatious little provocateur who tempts the palate and mesmerises the taste buds" ...

"by comparison this wine from the Hunter leaves a black smudge on your lip!" ;)

PS One of the luxuries I indulge in when Im travelling is to have two beers with dinner - concurrently - I just keep tasing and comparing, comparing and tasting .... and slowly - by a process of elimination, I end up with a small selection of beers I like best. - which incidentally (and as if it matters to the story) are XXXX on which I was weened, and Boags Draught (forget the special export imho)... then again Coopers, and etc etc ;) Cheers !

yeap :p:
I miss Plzen (Pilsner Urquell) and Gambrinus here in Oz. Especially the price - $1 for 0,5l on TAP ;)
You can still buy here Plzen, Krusovice, Budweiser in bottle shops :)
Here I like Coopers, Tooheys Extra Dry. Also Spanish Amber is not bad...

Anyway, after a couple of them one does not often recognise any different and every one is tasty :) ...like with girls
We say in the Czechs "After 5 beers every girl is a princess"

Cheers

In germany its one of the pretty cheap ones. Here its something around $19 for 24 bottels.
Dont like it that much. For a PILSNER BEER its not strong enough and it has not enough CO2.
In Germany we call it a cheap Party Beer.

About the ingredients: All German beers consists only of water, hop and malt. That called the REINHEITSGEBOT! I love it.
