Futures brokers?

Well, I've still not heard anything from these guys, I'm only asking for some information...seems they've passed me up a level. If i don't her anything by the end of business I'll go through their US office.

I was working with them for a while, testing data feeds etc., for the HSI. In the end, the IT dude I was working left so I requested that they try and work with Ninjatrader on the solution. I've also asked another broker to have a look as well. So still working on it, no result yet. I have managed to raise the opportunity so it's up to them to take it or not...Phillip Singapore never did answer my email.
 
I'd be keen to hear people's thoughts on a decent broker to use for a futures data feed and sim trading in coming months. After 18 months and probably over 1000 hrs of trend following trading in stocks using norgate data and amibroker for scanning and back testing I'd like to start understanding the absolute basics in futures platforms and try some short term mean reversion, watch dom, etc.

Amp futures seems to have good pricing, small margin requirement and no ongoing fee if I don't have time to practice for a while. I gather most on here use IB happily but I'm loathe to jump through all the hoops and put aside $10k this early on. Should have said I'm on cmc for stocks and happy.

I saw a post by Trembling H in PAv's "Starting in a Futures" thread saying its best to learn NT and pay for a data feed for at least a few months while starting out. Any recommendations on where to start guys.

Can't go past AMP Clearing with CQG data at this stage. I've yet to come across another way to get as much intraday data with excellent level II. Put up the minimum account and sim away until your hearts content.

Make sure you select the Sydney server though, it does make a difference to be closer to their servers.

I use Singapore and compared to Chicago its a noticeable difference in quality and speed.

Unfortunately I've gave up on Phillips futures. I think Halifax NZ is looking into something comparable to AMP Clearings selection of contracts but with rhythmic data....

I'd stay clear of IB for intraday trading if you want good level II data. I use them for spreads, the K200 and the HSI but thats it.

Mirus is another one to consider. Good data feed and also has static dom with nt7 as does AMP. Agree with Canoz - IB intraday data feed not as comprehensive. Doesn't even have tick data if you need it.
 
Thanks canoz and payday. Exactly sort of info I was after. Trading short term price action may not be my thing but would like to try real time and replayed sped up data. A few demo forex accounts left my head spinning and expect same thing likely for first few months playing in futures, but you have to start somewhere.

Might look to set up AMP once back from hols. Have been digesting "Futures Made Simple" in the meantime.

What about NInja Trader - is there any reason to purchase a full version upfront or will the free version provide plenty of demo practice options?
 
I use IB ok but don't use their feed
Have Esignal through Tradeguider.
 

Just check it out but i think you'll need a paid version to use with AMP. You can lease it though, by the quarter.

I don't think you can get a broker feed like AMP into the free version...but like i said just check it out. I think Boofis was running IB's feed through the free version....

Tech, i heard a rumor eSignal's Australian agent might be closing the doors?

AMP's CQG data feed is one of the best level II feeds...
 
Thanks Tech - I gather Tradeguider is the ultimate VSA software solution, but bit hard for me to justify for learning.

Canoz, wasn't aware of leasing option for NT. Might be a good way to dip my toes in the water initially.

I must have got caught up in the website hype too much.....

Presumably it would be helpful to get various VSA patterns/plays highlighted, but not essential if you're know well enough in advance what you're looking for? Price action does appeal to me as something to aspire to long term after my numerous (demo) dabbles in Forex. It doesn't look like waiting for a long term trend then "riding the wave" is going to be too much of an option the way things swung around. My current (probably naive) expectation of futures movements is similar until I get my hands on some real data.
 

All VSA does is indicate a price bar and volume which tells aossible story with a possible outcome.
If you think a logically a three minute bar can indicate a test yet a 10 min bar of the same instrument may well
Show something contrary to the 3 min bar.

The more time and volume the better so best find a timeframe where the indications are meaningful.
Beside the hype there is quality indications show in price.

Look at support and resistance and how price reacts to it.
Coming into it
Out of it or away from it.
 
Tend to be pretty sceptical about anything I can't demonstrate as successful in backtesting, and short term trading looks like a tough nut to crack for any sort of mechanical system. However, there no denying that zones of support and resistance really MATTER. I've got a heck of a lot to learn about expectancy for price/volume patterns though - big difference between price increasing or decreasing after moving through S/R! Willing to throw plenty of effort at trying to soak up as much knowledge as I can though

This is very true....but IF i could code, i would love to test a VWAP and how the price seems to always find buyers or sellers there, either a prior day VWAP or the current session VWAP...food for thought...

So VWAP is a sort of "exponentially weighted moving average", where rather than giving more weight to recent days, you give more weight proportionally to those days/points with more volume? Interesting idea. I've got a lot to learn (everything about NT for a start!) before I could start programming backtesting runs for Futures/NT. Would like to try at some point though.
 
I was just set up with AMP Futures.

It looks like I need to wire funds to the UK to fund the account in AUD, I haven't missed a simpler method have I?

Lemme know how u go with this mob. I'm about to sign up with these guys. There fee's on the local SPI are very cheap. 1/3 the price of IB.
