Four Corners

Well caught Son of baglimit, and thanks for posting the link!

Great news! Surely there was alot of work done behind the scenes in demonstrating to the new government how bad the decisions made by the former minister really were...

$300 million is alot of money, but better than the long term consequences of Nelson's seemingly intoxicated decision...
Who knows, maybe we could buy some spares for our Hornets as part trade off for cancelling?

After reviewing footage, and the explanation on the 730 report about how the cancellation fees were the deciding factor in the matter, I'm confident we don't have anything to worry about when it comes to planes like the Sukhoi.

Especially when it flies like this:

Well, well. Another *tick* for Rudd-08's team. Let's hope this whole review process is open and accountable and comes up with a half-decent outcome (both monetarily and strategically) for the citizens of Australia!

Lord Nelson's contractual processes might be due some *official* scrutiny as well.....

well AJ, hope you're as disappointed as I am!
open and accountable...ha! classified briefings he called them...same procedures as Nelson?
tick ... a dog wouldn't like the tick fitzgibbon just handed his party...
half-decent outcome? certainly not a decent one!
Joel http://www.minister.defence.gov.au/fitzgibbon/index.htm calls what he has done is proper..."read my lips" stuff... together with his personal insult...and reliance on one expert for F-111 http://www.defence.gov.au/Raaf/aircraft/f111.htm ...chief defence scientist
ALP's honeymoon ending/ended??
Bet you Rudd comes into this "debate" before long if Kerry does follow this up!

Oh! and there is no mention of any scrutiny at all...may be partly due to the classified briefings?? Who knows? Maybe they see Nelson as no threat?

The Australian Defence Association (ADA) is critical of both Mr Fitzgibbon and Mr Minchin, accusing them of political point-scoring over the troubled defence projects.

The ADA says row is annoying staff within the Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO).

"They are both politically point-scoring at each other," the association's executive director Neil James told ABC Radio.

"Perhaps both of them should think more of the national interest(my emphasis) and the morale of the defence force and the Defence Materiel Organisation.

"There is absolutely no doubt that some very hard-working and motivated people in the DMO are getting very pissed off about some of this coverage."

The row has festered since the November 24 poll, with Mr Fitzgibbon accusing the former Howard coalition government of presiding over a series of bungled defence equipment projects which are either running late or over budget.

Senator Minchin has accused the government of exaggerating.

Mr James said both men were applying a political slant and much of the media reporting was incorrect.

"The problem is that both sides of politics are attempting to control the public narrative and dictate it only in party political terms," he said.

"Most of the problems with the procurement of defence equipment can't really be blamed to political mistakes in many cases.

"Some of them were caused by historical factors. Some were caused by factors that would occur no matter who was the government."
