Hi

What is the best way for me to find out where i am in the queue when i have placed a buy or sell?

At the moment i am trading with ST George Directshares (which looks to be powered by etrade) But i cant work out where i stand in regards to the sell i have placed

Any help would be appreciated

i havnt used etrade but try look for a section called 'market depth' this shows you the outstanding buys and sells, listed by price first . ie for buys the highest price is on top and lowest price on top for sells. with orders at the same price, whoever placed the order first is first in que . so after u place an order, look at the market depth and look for a quantity (of underlying security) that matched the order you put in and you can work out the order depending how far away from the top of list you are .

note that if your order price is too low compare to the other outstanding orders, it may be really deep down the list in which case some platforms dont show .

hope this helps

Depends on your broker.

Commsec's market depth won't show you individual orders in the depth only how many shares and how many orders at a price level but other brokers with better platforms will show you individual orders in the market depth and if the order is with the same broker it will have your order highlighted.

I thin St George just puts all the trades of the same price together

IE i wanted to sell 10 000 shares at 0.18 but market depth is showing 787909 at 0.18.
